Filter.ly launched last month at TechCrunch Disrupt, and they aim to be your next news app. The app's goal is to be a tool for large (and small) media outlets, as well as at the individual user level. What the app does is organize content based on a specific reader's interests, making everything they're viewing relevant to what they are interested in.
This all works using a fancy algorithm that Filter.ly developed, based on your web behavior and social activity. For larger media outlets, the company's goal is to make websites as personalized as possible to a specific user.
For example, if I go to Cambio.com's homepage and I love reading up about Taylor Swift, news about her would show up versus other articles that didn't feature her. The tool would grab this information based on my web activity (like watching her music videos on YouTube), following her on Twitter, or liking her page on Facebook.
They also have an app you can download to your mobile phone or tablet. I downloaded the app and logged in using my Facebook account. I also added to my Filter.ly profile by putting in websites that I like and my Twitter handle. Based on my interests, it dug through a ton of articles across the web and came up with a handful - seven total - articles based on what I like:
Yes, I am a huge TVD fan (it's also worth noting that a few Teen Wolf articles popped up, too. #TeamSterekForLife) What was interesting was that some of the articles were from days prior, and it didn't seem to refresh my feed (I could be using it wrong.) The company's main focus - for now - is at the macro level, and they are currently working on a beta phase with three large media outlets in Europe. One of Filter.ly's founders, Angelo Prado, couldn't disclose who specifically they were working with, but promised they were all major media companies. The mobile app has a few hundred active users, as they just recently launchd last month at TechCrunch Disrupt.
When we spoke with Angelo and his team, he stated that this app is different than other content personalization apps:
It's different, because we aim to recommend users with news and articles that are interesting to [them] specifically ... we developed an algorithm that will create a personal relevance graph for every use. The [product] matches new content with users every day by scouring millions of articles and recommending a handful to each user - all unique to [their] specific interests. It is not [just] about what's popular or trending, but what is relevant specifically to you.
Check out the app (available for iOS and Android), and see what new content it brings up for you. Tweet me your thoughts on the app @lizprugh.
Pringles just stepped up its flavor game - big time.
Once again, the potato chip brand is back to spreading holiday cheer with its limited-edition flavors that sound totally cray - in a good way, that is. Honestly, we wouldn't have dreamed up some of these flavor combinations, but they all certainly sound worthy of a taste (or two).
In addition the return of the four previously released special flavors Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate, Pecan Pie and Tortilla Cinnamon & Sugar, the brand has added a new taste to the mix - Salted Caramel.
Hmm...now we're wondering if we can get away with bringing a tube of Pringles for dessert to the family holiday dinner.
Keeping Up With The Kardashians is coming back on November 15 and in this new sneak peek that E! just released from the upcoming season, it looks like the famous fam wastes NO time getting down to business.
Kourtney Kardashian's breakup with Scott Disick is still pretty fresh (they broke up in July) and while it's obviously still a very difficult subject, when they were filming for this season, the wound was really, REALLY raw for Kourt.
When last season ended, Kourtney had just decided to pull the plug on their relationship after pictures surfaced of Scott getting cozy with an ex-girlfriend in Monte Carlo surfaced. That seemed to be the last straw for the 36-year-old mother of three, who said that Scott had been on a month-long bender even before those pictures were taken.
While Scott was spotted spending time in New York City with a new girl recently, Kourtney is just focusing on her kids, and that's exactly what she explains in this KUWTK sneak peek.
When Kris Jenner tells her that she needs "somebody really special" in her life, Kourt doesn't even hesitate before saying "I don't care about anybody, I just want to care for my kids." And Kourt continues to do an amazing job with that - what's more, she also seems REALLY happy right now, so we are actually really excited for this next chapter in her life.
Keeping Up With the Kardashians returns Sunday, November 15 at 9 p.m. on E!
Say what you want about the Kardashians, but that family sticks together like no other - and when they bring someone into their family, they get the same treatment.
Lamar Odom hasn't been part of the "family" for almost two years, since Khloe Kardashian filed for divorce in December 2013 (in light of recent events, they have since withdrawn the petition).
Still, she's made it very clear that she never stopped caring about him and when he was hospitalized on October 13 in Nevada, the family came out in full force to support him. Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner accompanied Khloe to be with him just hours after he was admitted and the rest of the family came out over the weekend to support both Khloe and Lamar.
Now that Lamar is back in Los Angeles, Khloe has consistently been by his side. Today, on his 36th birthday, she threw a small party for him in the hospital. Kris, Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kylie, Kendall and Kylie's boyfriend Tyga all went to spend some time with him so that he wouldn't be alone. Some of Lamar's close friends were also invited.
It's a busy day for the famous fam, who has another birthday party tonight, Kris Jenner's 60th. But this isn't going to be small at all. According to TMZ, Kris' kids spent $2 million on the Great Gatsby-themed bash and there will be 300 people in attendance.
Happy birthday to both Kris and Lamar!
Lucy Hale has posted throwback shots from her childhood before, but her latest childhood photo reigns supreme.
In the shot she posted Thursday, little Lucy rocks pink lipstick, her signature thick brows and a massive head of teased, curly hair complete with a white headband. "Ultimate Throwback Thursday," Lucy captioned the snap, with crying laughing emoticons. We have to agree with her on that one. This shot is epic.
Like Lucy, fans that commented on her post couldn't contain their laughter either. Most either posted crying laughing emoticons, while several others wrote "OMG," and someone else wrote, "THIS GIVES ME SO MUCH DAMN HOPE." Lolz.
While that one has been our fave of the Lucy - who is becoming the queen of #TBT - throwbacks so far, the Pretty Little Liars star showed off another that got everyone talking when she posted a black and white headshot of herself last month that showed her resting her head on her palm.
"Pretty sure this is when I stopped growing. Also probably wearing my juicy tubes lip gloss and stretchy choker in this photo. #fashion," she captioned the snap. In the shot, she - and her brows - look exactly the same as she does now. Mind = blown.
See? Same. Crossing our fingers Lucy keeps those throwback photos coming. We are living for them.
We really thought we had seen it all on Tinder. Every weird profile pic, every creepy pickup line...literally everything. Turns out, we were wrong. GQ had five pairs of women scroll through Tinder profiles together and it's nothing short of hilarious.
The video starts out with a bang, with the first pair of girls reading a profile that says, "I just wanna eat some a**, is that too much to ask?"
Um, yeah, actually it is. We know that Tinder pretty much exists for people to GET some a**, and we all accept that, but that guy just took it wayyyyyy too far. Maybe he got autocorrected and meant "get"? PLEASE let that have just been an unfortunate autocorrect fail.
Of the 634 profiles they read, they swiped left on 564 of them, which is an 89% failure rate for the guys. Yep, sounds about right.
The good news - for the guys - is that the women offered some tips on how they could improve their profiles. Like: Go to the gym more, but don't snap gym selfies while you're there.
Another Tip: Don't have women in your profile pics. We don't know if it's your sister or an ex and we don't have the patience to try to figure it out.
Now that Brooklyn Beckham's romance with Chloe Grace Moretz is over, it looks like he has a new ladylove named Sonia Ben Ammar.
According to Daily Mail, Sonia and Brooklyn were first spotted getting cozy last month as they arrived for a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. In a photo from that day, Sonia can be seen grabbing Brooklyn's face as he smiles at her. They reportedly met while on vacation with their families in Maldives earlier this year.
So, who is Sonia exactly? She's a French actress, model and singer who travels the world and posts the photos on her Instagram to prove it. According to Daily Mail, she's also signed to Next Models in Paris, has already starred on Broadway and appeared in the 2013 French film Jappeloup.
She also loves posting retro shots of Brooke Shields and other models on Instagram to express her mood, and like Brooklyn, has a thing for art and photography. While Brooklyn and Sonia haven't posted any photos of themselves together on social media just yet, he did put up a black and white shot on Instagram of her a couple of months ago that showed her hair flowing while she stood in front of a fence. You can't see her face in it, but it was the same day they were spotted together, so fans quickly caught on that it was her when he posted it.
As far as what happened to Brooklyn and Chloe...it's not exactly clear. When they were dating, neither one of them really opened up about it, but according to the UK's Mirror he unfollowed her on Twitter in August. Yikes.
News first surfaced that Brooklyn and Chloe were dating in August 2014 after spending some time together at Paris Fashion Week.
Perrie Edwards has found the perfect way to not talking about her ex during interviews. While she called Zayn Malik "what's-his-face" in the past, now she's found a new way to move on, with the help of her Little Mix fam.
During a recent interview with E! News, when talk turned to dating, Perrie and her bandmate Jade Thirlwall admitted they are a couple!
Perrie joked, "I'm actually secretly...I think now is the time to let everyone know, actually, Jade, we're actually together."
Jade added, "We didn't wanna say it this soon but everyone's asking."
How cute are they, actually? Perrie did say, "No, I'm not dating anyone right now."
And when Zayn's name came up, her Little Mix bandmates totally had her back, with Leigh-Anne Pinnock yelling: "We don't want to talk about it!"
Perrie had a laugh too, saying, "We'd rather not talk about it right now."
Is it time for interviewers to move beyond the Zayn questions?
File this one under when you find out your whole childhood was a lie.
As it turns out, the real Winnie the Pooh is not a clumsy British teddy bear - and he's not even a he. According to a new picture book, Finding Winnie, Pooh is actually a Canadian girl, named after a black bear from London Zoo named Winnipeg, Bustle reported.
The book was written by Lindsay Mattick, the great-granddaughter of the soldier who brought Winnie to England. Lieutenant Harry Colebourn bought Winnie for just $20 during the First World War, and they were inseparable, until Harry had to go with his unit to France and had to leave her at London Zoo.
Winnie wasn't alone for too long, though. Not long after Harry headed to France, she made a new best friend - a little boy named Christopher Robin who loved to visit the zoo. Christopher loved Winnie so much that he named his toy bear after her, and his dad happened to be A.A. Milne, who went on to write the classic Winnie the Pooh books.
Lindsay wrote the book because she wanted her children to know about their family legacy, and to show everyone just how loved the real Winnie was.
Mind = blown.
Our girl nailed it on the November cover of Vogue Italia, rocking her hair in an ice-blue afro (and giving everyone their lives). "Leave it to Steven Meisel, @carlynecerfdedudzeele, @guidopalau, and @patmcgrathreal to have fun with fashion! So honored to cover the November issue of @VogueItalia!," she captioned a shot of the cover on Instagram.
In the snap, the model also rocks a killer smoky cat eye, pale lip-gloss and a set of blinged-out rings that match her look.
While Gigi has experimented with blue ombre hues on the tips of her hair in the past, she's kept her hair pretty much the same since she was thrust in the spotlight, wearing it in long, blonde flowy hairstyles. So, it was nice (and a little shocking) to see her change it up, even if her real hair is tucked under a wig.
The ice-blue afro wasn't the only color Gigi sported for the Vogue Italia shoot, though. She also rocked hot pink and yellow afros for it too. "DIVINE GORGEOUS AMAZING LA GIGI !!! SHOT BY STEVEN MEISEL AND STYLED BY MOIGATE FOLD COVER OF ITALIAN VOGUE!!!," French stylist Carlyn Cerf de Dudzeele captioned the snap.
Kim Kardashian frequently posts bikini selfies and she frequently posts flashback Friday photos of herself, so when she posted a #FBF bikini selfie, nobody really thought anything of it.
While none of us were surprised to see it pop up in our feeds, Kim was because she says her 2-year-old daughter North West was actually the one who posted the pic.
"North posted this while playing games on my phone," Kim captioned the photo above. "Not sure why or how she chose it but I'm not complaining! LOL I deleted it so now reposting it myself! #FBF from 10 years ago."
For those of us who have ever made the mistake of handing our phones to a toddler and seen that they sent an "alkjadfljadflkjdf" text to our boss, it's hard to imagine that North dug up that particular photo from years ago **imagine how many selfies are in Kim's photo library!** and accidentally posted it on IG and just so happened to post that old pic on #FBF. Not totally impossible, but fans aren't exactly buying it...
"The only reason I want to have a child is so I can post bikini pics and blame it on the kid," one person commented. "That caption is so cringy. You don't need to make up excuses to post these photos you do it every day!" another chimed in. "Lamest excuse ever! If you want to post your glittery boobs, go ahead, but just own it!" someone else said.
Fun fact: Kim posted the same pic almost exactly a year ago for Throwback Thursday with the caption, "#TWTFBT#MissTeenArmenian."
This is the full body photo, though, North cropped hers...
As if being a girl isn't already stressful AF, a high school principal in Michigan thinks his female students should be responsible for dressing themselves in a manner that helps their male peers to control themselves. Yes - this really happened in 2015.
According to Seventeen, Jim Bazen, principal of Plymouth Christian High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, detailed his sexist guidelines in a letter he wrote to MLive.com, which published an editorial in opposition of dress codes that unfairly target women.
The letter continues:
Being wired more visual, males are attracted to shape and skin. Yes, a lot of bare skin or tightly covered (Spandex!) skin is a sexual distraction to a male. He will say, the more skin the better...but this leads him to treat women as 'sex objects' rather than respect her for who she is. So, it would seem to me, that if you do not want women treated as 'sex objects,' you should tell them to cover more skin.
Ugh, we're completely shaking our heads at this one. We won't deny that women are pretty damn powerful and capable of accomplishing some spectacular feats, but not even Superwoman herself should be charged with controlling an entire sex. Promoting respect for others, regardless of sex, is a much more balanced message to deliver to students to ensure that they all experience a comfortable learning environment.
The only way you can help young men not treat young ladies as sex objects is by telling the young ladies to cover up! A young man will not think of a respectfully dressed young woman as a 'sex object' but is more likely to see her for who she is. A young man may have no intention to lust, yet when an immodestly dressed girl passes him in the hall, he will think sexual thoughts.
For some reason, the fact that Lorde is still a teen always manages to shock us. Maybe it's because her serious, poised persona defies the stereotypical teen mold of constant giddiness. On Saturday, Nov. 7, the "Yellow Flicker Beat" singer turned 19 and true to her low-key nature, she kept it cute with a simple tweet.
Ever since she took over the music scene, the singer's been labeled as wise beyond her years and we totally agree. Here are five times Lorde proved she wasn't your ordinary teenage girl:
NINETEEN!- Lorde (@lordemusic) November 7, 2015
When she curated the Hunger Games soundtrack:
When she totally kept her cool after Drake made her his Instagram bae:
TBH, we still don't know how she managed to hold it together.
champagne papi got me like ☺️☺️😍 pic.twitter.com/4V96z3Jv5h- Lorde (@lordemusic) September 16, 2015
All the times she called BS on her Photoshopped pics:
And posted flawless makeup-free selfies instead.
When she shamelessly copped to dumpster diving:
"It stays on the street for a few days and then it's collected and put into a landfill somewhere. But people drive around and go through other people's household rubbish," Lorde told Stella magazine. "And, honestly, I've gotten amazing furniture, shoes, hats, jackets."
When she assured men that she's a perfectly capable boss b**ch:
Her #Truthbombs always slay.
yes, i'm a young lass, but i'm also making the best decisions for me each day. #stayeducated 💅- Lorde (@lordemusic) May 20, 2015
Happy birthday, Lorde!
Kris Jenner's Great Gatsby-themed 60th birthday party was THE place to be in Hollywood last night. The famous fam spent a reported $2 million on the bash, which was attended by an estimated 300 of the momager's closest friends and family members.
Of course, the usual crew was there: Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Kylie Jenner, Tyga, Kendall Jenner and Khloe Kardashian. There were also a ton of other famous faces including Ryan Seacrest, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, Will and Jada Smith, Tommy Hilfiger, Kyle Richards and Kathy and Rick Hilton.
According to Us Weekly, the event began with a cocktail hour, where Kris and her boyfriend Corey Gamble greeted their guests. The main event lasted until about 3:00 am, where guests were dancing to tracks spun by DJ Cassidy and enjoying the '20s ambiance.
The family also made a video montage for Kris (inspired by Kris' "I Love My Friends" video from 1985), which featured an original song the fam wrote with the help of Kanye West, called "You Love Your Friends." Kris' ex, Caitlyn Jenner even appeared in the video - sending some love...from the bathtub!
To see more pics and videos from Kris' birthday bash, check out the gallery below.
Kylie Jenner has pretty much grown up in front of the camera - and that includes more than just the Keeping Up With The Kardashians cameras as the famous fam is followed by paparazzi EVERYWHERE they go. Even North West is sick of it and she's only two.
Now that Kylie and Tyga have gone public with their relationship, there is even more interest in them and the paparazzi are literally all over their every move.
Given that many paps are assigned beats and follow certain people, celebs often get to know the photogs that follow them, which can be either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how they get along. Unfortunately for Kylie, there is one particular paparazzo who follows her that she has very strong feelings about - and let's just say they're not the warm and fuzzy kind.
Fans immediately took to Twitter calling Ky's rant 'sexist,' and wondering why she said that a woman shouldn't be a paparazzo:
@KylieJenner I mean then that paparazzi can only be a man? Let's open the mind Kylie. Women can exercise any profession.- Carolina Marques (@_carolyndalove) November 7, 2015
@KylieJenner Why shouldn't a WOMAN be a Paparazzi?!- Ayesha (@AyeshaMarie__) November 7, 2015
I guess @KylieJenner thinks if you're a girl paparazzi you're a bitch and that you don't know what you're doing with you're life.- I GT SOUNDCHECK (@SchoolBoiLuke) November 6, 2015
Others were simply offended by the fact that she put a paparazzo on blast at all, because they're just trying to make a living AND what they're doing actually helps promote the family. What's more, some fans pointed out that Kylie and the rest of her fam sometimes even posts paparazzi pics that they like on their own Instagram pages...
kylie jenner about a female paparazzi "what a bitch, what is she doing with her life" Um trying to make money And also promoting u so STFU- rowan (@rowanblofeld) November 7, 2015
when kylie jenner insults a woman for being part of the paparazzi yet posts paparazzi photos of herself on her instagram... girl bye- r (@notreeba) November 6, 2015
"No woman should ever be a paparazzi" @KylieJenner maybe people have to do this for a living spoiled brat- Majo (@billy_poho) November 6, 2015
@KylieJenner calls a paparazzi a bitch and its ok ? No , she was just doing her job , alot of us dont get paid for doing nothing ...🐸☕- luperamirez (@Est4Life_lupe) November 7, 2015
Kylie hasn't clarified her comments - maybe she has bad blood with that particular paparazzo, but what does that have to do with her being a woman?
@KylieJenner you were protecting people against bullying and now you criticize a paparazzi woman? WTF! That's shady.- .Freddy. (@Freddy_Romero) November 7, 2015
**If you want to skip through Kris' video from 1985 and go straight to the new stuff, jump to the 4-minute mark**
Kris Jenner celebrated her 60th birthday in style with a $2 million Great Gatsby-themed bash in West Hollywood last night and while lots of people are admiring the photos the famous fam posted on social media, everyone is talking about the tribute video the kids made for their mom.
Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie took a random video (seriously, so random) that Kris made for her 30th birthday back in 1985, entitled "I Love My Friends" and they made an epic parody video for her 60th.
They recreated a whole bunch of scenes from Kris' video - like this one, from the treadmill:
...and this one, of Kris cruisin' in the car:
This one, where she was singing in the studio:
...and, of course, the bubble bath scene. Hi Caitlyn Jenner!
There were a bunch of other celeb cameos in the video, too, like Justin Bieber who did a funny scene with Kris' boyfriend Corey Gamble, Katy Perry and Scott Disick, who we haven't seen much of lately.
We're not sure, but we think maybe Kris loves her friends...
We all have our go-to "drunk foods," but what we eat when we're drunk is very different than what drunk people around the world eat. What tastes good to us doesn't necessarily get mouths watering around the world - and vice versa.
In this epic BuzzFeed video, they got a bunch of people drunk and had them try "drunk foods" from around the world, because there is no sense eating drunk food sober.
They started out pretty strong, giving people barbecued chicken intestines and fried quail eggs, which are apparently a popular drunk food in Thailand. At first, the people weren't told what they were eating and let's just say ignorance was bliss.
The rest of the foods, though, were a little disappointing on the grossness scale. Brazil's was butter, mashed potatoes, tomatoes, corn and onions, which actually sounds kind of awesome to us. Russia's was smoked halibut and dried calamari: not bad. There was another kebab-type situation that is apparently popular in a lot of countries and we can totally see why:
Yep, the love for the doner kebab was pretty unanimous and we're not gonna lie, we were stone cold sober watching this video and we'd love to get our hands on one of those babies!
Justin Bieber must be on one! The singer was just caught flipping out in France while chatting with a friend.
According to TMZ, the Biebs was chilling in Cannes, France Saturday, getting lunch with a friend outside his hotel and when something set him off. An annoyed JB stood up, flipped his chair and walked out.
Almost instantly stories surfaced that Bieber may have been ticked off by the fans filming. But that wasn't the case.
Justin took to social media and explained what went down, saying, "My buddy had just told me some bad personal news. Just took pics with a buncha beliebers. I must of been mad at them. lol"
This isn't the first freakout the Biebs has had lately. He's recently walked out of an interview, stormed off stage and yelled at his fans during a TV show performance.
We'll file all that under "not so swaggy."
Whether you're looking for a special way to celebrate your birthday or an epic spa day with your BFF, the treatments at these spas reign supreme. Take a peek at the massages, soaks and more that will take your breath away (and in one case give you a serious craving for chocolate).
1. Raindrop Aromatherapy Massage at Four Seasons Beverly Hills: Have you ever gotten caught in a rainstorm and ruined your fresh 'do? This is so not that moment. The raindrop aromatherapy massage is total bliss. During the session, drops of organic oil fall like rain onto your spine and are massaged in using a feathering technique. The massage is designed to release blockages and align energy throughout your body (it also feels really good). As a close second, the Punta Mita Tequila massage here also is a winner - particularly if you're battling a bad case of jet lag. During the treatment, tequila and sage are blended together to cleanse and detoxify the body, and it's designed to improve circulation, aid digestion and relieve the fatigue of jet lag. Sign us up!
2. Whipped Cocoa Bath at The Spa at Hotel Hershey: You can actually take a bath in chocolate at this Hershey Pa. spa (dying at the thought of this). For their Whipped Cocoa Bath, you hop in a tub full of foaming chocolate milk that softens and renews the skin. Top off that treatment with the Chocolate Dipped Strawberry treatment where you get a Strawberry Parfait scrub and your body is wrapped in a warm blanket after you are brushed down with chocolate fondue. For the cocoa massage, you're rubbed down with chocolate scented massage oil during your Swedish massage (anyone else craving a Hershey's chocolate bar right now?)
3. Watsu Massage at the Spa at Bellagio: When you've partied the night away in Sin City, this massage can help bring you back to life. During this Aquatic massage session, your body is massaged while you float in the spa's private 94-degree pool for 70 minutes. It combines Zen Shiatsu massage and stretching and will give you a new found sense of relaxation.4. Sake Soak at Shibui Spa at the Greenwich Hotel: Whether you love to sip sake or aren't old enough just yet to have a taste, you can literally soak in sake at this New York City spa in a tub surrounded by bamboo. The soak is a New Year's tradition in Japan and supposedly not only nourishes the skin, but helps clear evil spirits and make way for new beginnings.
5. Color and Light Wrap with Aura Imaging at the Omni Grove Park Inn: If you think this sounds a little intricate, you're right. Here's how it works: The treatment at this Asheville, N.C. spa starts with light-sensitive photography, which identifies your aura. Then, you're covered in an exfoliating and detoxifying clay body wrap and music, light, heat and aromatherapies work to help you achieve balance and harmony.
There's no better time than now to have a spa day with the girls. Everyone needs a little time for rest and relaxation every now and then.
How cray would it be to discover you had an actual twinsie IRL? Well, it's totally possible to confirm the existence of your lookalike and locate them anywhere on the planet, thanks to this amazing website Twin Strangers.
Users pay $3.95, which allows them to create a profile that remains active for six months. Then they simply upload a photo and select specific facial features. Then you simply search the site for others who share those similarities and you just may find a stranger with your face staring back at you. Back in April, the site held a competition in which users set out to find their twins within 28 days and it totally worked!
The website Drama Fever posted successful matches and the similarities completely blew our minds, some of which included stunning celebrity doppelgangers. As it turns out, Nicolas Cage bears a striking resemblance to a Civil War vet, while Justin Timberlake looks exactly like some bearded guy from the 1800s.
This is a pretty cool idea, but still, the possibility of meeting a perfect stranger who looks exactly like you feels kind of freakish.
