We can't even handle it and honestly aren't sure how there can be one Ziam love child dude...let alone TWO of them wandering this Earth. Maybe there are more? Who knows? What a time to be alive!

Check out Brazilian model Marlon Teixeira, who you can stalk...er...follow on Instagram at @marlontx.

The smolder is strong with this one - be sure not to stare directly into his eyes or his beauty will end you. You've been warned.

Hair Contouring is a New Beauty Trend, But It May Not Be Worth It

Paris Fashion Valli
I blame the Kardashians for the contouring trend: those ladies really know how to define their cheekbones. The reality show family may have put the makeup technique on the map, but the world definitely ran with the trend: heck, just read up on "vagina contouring" to see how far this contouring thing has gone. Now we have a way less weird thing to contour: our hair. Hair contouring is a thing too, and while it may lead to pretty highlights, I'm not sure it's worth it.

So what is hair contouring? According to stylists, the endgame isn't that different from when you use makeup to contour your face. Hair contouring places highlights and lowlights in different areas of your hair to give the illusion of a certain shape. If you have a longer face, for example, you could put some strategically-placed highlights that frame your face and therefore give it a wider appearance. As with makeup, darker colors are for shadowing while lighter colors highlight the areas you want focused on.

Here's a picture that colorist Nick Penna pointed out as an example of hair contouring for Allure. Does SJP's hair accentuate her best feature?
While I'm all about playing around with makeup contouring, specifically designing your hair so that your face looks a certain way doesn't seem particularly necessary. The trend may work when your hair is down, but what happens when you flip your part or put your hair in a ponytail? If hair contouring allows you to score some beautiful highlights, I'm all for it, but ultimately, the point should be to have pretty hair - not have pretty hair that accentuates your cheekbones.

Farrah Abraham Loses Her Cool on Celebrity Big Brother

Uh oh...Farrah Abraham is in hot water with Celebrity Big Brother producers after an argument with fellow housemate Natasha Hamilton got ugly.

After the verbal altercation, Farrah was called into the diary room by producers where she let her anger get the best of her.

"I'm pissed off," she said when she said down. And then she questioned why she had been called to the Diary Room, saying, "Because I was going to obliterate the f**king scum that you have in this house? I'm going to straight up f**king kill this whole f**king house."

Apparently, the conversation continued after that, with the show including this dialogue in the video caption. "I love the British and the f**king country you all live in - but I won't have everyone in here telling me I'm negative," she reportedly said. "My team and I are positive happy people and we love our families. We are hard-working people and we have been through s**t. I won't deal with people acting like we don't care. We do!"

This is definitely the most explosive situation we've seen on CBB this season so far, and fans will find out tomorrow if Farrah will be allowed back in the house or not.

Stars Like Josh Hutcherson and Nina Dobrev Combat Sexual Assault With a Powerful PSA

Sexual assault is not an easy subject to tackle, but it is an extremely necessary one. According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, an alarming one in five women is a victim of sexual assault in the United States. It's a scary statistic, and it's proof that we need to get aggressive about combating this issue. Now, some of your favorite stars are teaming up with the It's On Us campaign to dish out some real talk on what sexual assault entails - and how to prevent it.

The White House initiative's goal is to help stop sexual assault, specifically on college campuses, by informing people of the one thing that they need to have sex in the first place: consent. Without consent, sex isn't sex - it's rape. In the initiative's latest PSA, stars like Nina Dobrev, John Cho, Josh Hutcherson, and Zoe Saldana are the ones stressing the importance of consent during sexual activity. They tell the audience that consent isn't something you can take - it has to be given to you freely.

The It's On Us campaign is important because it puts responsibility on people who choose to have sex - not the people who might become the victims of sexual assault. It doesn't warn women not to accept drinks from strangers or inform them about what they should or shouldn't wear to a party. Instead, it tells people exactly what constitutes rape: sex without consent. It's a message that should be drilled into our minds constantly.

Check out the entire star-studded video below, and head to the It's On Us website to sign a pledge to always have sex with consent.

Brace Yourself: The Catalina Wine Mixer From 'Step Brothers' is Actually Happening

It's the Catalina Wine Mixer! And it's really happening. The iconic (and hilarious) scene from the 2008 Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly buddy comedy is becoming a Real Thing, and it's the perfect event for any hardcore fan of the flick. Santa Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles will be transformed into the Catalina Wine Mixer from Step Brothers on Sept. 13. Only question is: can you handle the cray?

Because "cray" is exactly how to describe the upcoming event. According to TMZ, the end of summer event will recreate some of the major details from the movie. "The Dan Band" will play the event, just as they did for the original movie, but that's not nearly as ridiculous as the other major recreation: according to reports, the company running this shindig will land a helicopter on the lawn of the event, just as it went down in the original film. Will and John aren't on the list, but I wouldn't be surprised if these two showed up to the event in style - like, say, by helicopter.

So, what will it take to score an invite to the epic Catalina Wine Mixer? Apparently the answer is $35. That's the price of admission to the event, which will feature gourmet food, wine, and dancing at the Descanso Beach Club. If you want to get really fancy, you can even rent out a cabana for the day, which will set you back $150 to $800 bucks.

Can't make it to Catalina Island? Revisit the "effing Catalina Wine Mixer" with the video below.

Barbie Jeep Girl Is College Goals

Tara Monroe is now an internet sensation and Texas State legend. On March 4 she refused a breathalyzer after authorities suspected her of DWI, ultimately ending in the suspension of her license. That didn't stop this barbie girl from cruising the streets. She took to Craigslist and found the ultimate form of transportation, Charlene, a hot pink Barbie Jeep.
Tara isn't trying to downplay the severity of the DWI (and neither are we), but wants to prove that you can make the best of any situation, and not going to lie, she totally rocks it. Her hashtag #barbiejeepgirl is taking over Twitter and Instagram and she seems to be embracing the fame.

She told KVUE, "The fact that I'm worldwide, literally getting messages from people in Argentina, Spain, Colombia -- is overwhelming."
Our only question now is - will our nieces or little cousins let us borrow theirs?

Here's How Kylie Jenner and Tyga Spent the Holiday Weekend

0

2015 MTV Video Music Awards - BackstageKylie Jenner and Tyga get to do a ton of cool things because they're rich and famous and all that fun stuff, but at the end of the day, they're just regular people who do regular things. Case in point: The way they spent their Labor Day weekend.

On Thursday night, the pair enjoyed a night in, because who doesn't love cuddling up on the couch and watching a movie?

They got their fro-yo on, which the dogs begged for, naturally (because the dogs are normal dogs, too), and they all just enjoyed a low-key evening at home:

On Friday night, it was more of the same, as Kylie shared this cute candid video of them hanging at her house while Tyga is teasing Norman and Bambi. Wild Friday night, huh?

When it was time to go to bed, Kylie had Tyga help her remove her face mask, because a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do - and relationships aren't always glamorous!

Tyga had to do a little work over the weekend and while he was performing, Kylie kicked it at home with her friends. She even gave us a little tour of the garden in her courtyard, where she went all Martha Stewart and made it beautiful and home-y. Couldn't be any further from the Hollywood club scene, but we kinda love it, we're not gonna lie!

But when night time came, Kyga got their midnight snack on just like the rest of us. In this clip, Kylie goes to look for Tyga and he yells to her from the kitchen that he'll be right up, but he's looking for some BBQ chips. Yassssss!

So, while Kylie and Tyga's lives seem totally exciting and glamorous - which they are sometimes - mostly, they're just doing the same stuff we are. At the end of the day, they're just regular people who love their dogs, like Netflix nights, gettin' their grub on and hanging with friends.

Say It Ain't So! Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt Just Broke Up After 18 Years Together

1st Annual PEOPLE Magazine Awards - Arrivals
It's been a tough summer for celebrity couples. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are done, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have called it quits, and even Kermit has moved on from Miss Piggy to a pig named Denise. Now it seems that another celebrity couple has broken up: Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt are officially over, thus ending a sad summer of celeb splits.

Jon and Jennifer (ugh, even their names seem perfect together) were one of the longest-lasting couples in Hollywood. Though they never tied the knot, the couple was together for 18 years, which was long before Jon became Don Draper. The couple gave a joint statement to People Magazine regarding the split, stating that they would continue to be "supportive of each other in every possible way moving forward." (BRB, sobbing.)

Since the couple doesn't have any kids, I highly doubt we're going to have a repeat of Ben and Jennifer's "Nanny-gate" - in fact, the low-key couple kept so much of their relationship out of the press that it's likely we won't hear much about their split following their tasteful announcement. It's a shame that Jon and Jennifer are parting ways, but at least they are doing so amicably - they've been in one another's lives for so long that staying supportive of one another is likely the only thing that feels appropriate.

Here's hoping that the summer of broken hearts gives way to a far happier fall.

'What's Up' With Skylar Stecker? She Needs to Be on Your Radar

0
0
True Life: We're obsessed with Skylar Stecker. She's fun, full of spunk and super talented at both singing and songwriting. Her confidence, poise and voice seem that of a seasoned performer, so you'd never guess she's barely a teenager. She might only be 13, but Skylar is one rising star that needs to be on your radar.

Last time we talked to Skylar at the beginning of 2015, she was just getting ready to release her first EP Firecracker independently. Things have seriously blown up for Skylar since then. She's been all over Radio Disney, guest starred on Disney Channel's Austin and Ally, signed to a record label and is now getting ready to release her debut album This Is Me on Sept. 25. She's also performing on TODAY on NBC on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Cambio: So much has happened since the last time we talked! What has been the most exciting part of this journey so far for you?
Skylar: Being able to grow as an artist is one of the main things and being able to work with such amazing people and such a great team around me. That's just incredible and it's more than I could ever ask for. And we have an album that's coming out in September. So on Sept. 25, it's coming out, so that's really exciting, because we've been working on it for a while and it's really cool to be able to see that since it is my first album all this hard work that everyone has put in to this and all my new material and everyone's going to be able to see it pretty soon, so it's crazy.

Cambio: What inspired the songs on the album?
Skylar: My EP that came in January was my first thing that I put out there besides covers, so it was just like more of an introduction to everyone like this is me, this is who I am, and I wanted to elevate that in my album and it's called This Is Me. There's more material on this and I just wanted to just have a bigger say in everything and to go deeper into expressing myself and get into more details of who I am, because I really want to show everyone this is me and this is who I am.

A photo posted by Cambio (@cambiogram) on

(Skylar recently took over our Instagram! Check out all the pics here.)

Cambio: What's your favorite track on the album?
Skylar: It's so hard, because I love all of them so much! They're all so different. Every single song has a different vibe to it and it's hard because I'm very like on to the next thing so I'm performing or working on one song for a period of time, that's my favorite. But if I'm working on a different song, that's my favorite. But right now, my favorite is probably a song called "Crazy Beautiful" which is on the album. I'm now rehearsing that song with my band and dancers for a lot of performances we have coming up.

Cambio: What was it like working with Kalin and Myles on the song "Bring Me to Life?"
Skylar: It was so much fun! I already recorded bring me to life previously to that and we were, I was going to do like this bridge section and it just didn't work for the song and we were like why don't we have Kalin and Myles on the song it'd be really, really cool to do a collaboration with them. So, we contacted to them and they were excited to be on it. And they jumped on the track and it was just like magic. It was awesome. They did such a great job and they made the song. I'm super happy that they're on the track and it was just an amazing experience.

Cambio: You're performing on TODAY! How excited are you?
Skylar: Yes, I am! It's crazy. My manager called and told me and so did my PR people and it just was amazing. And I was so excited and I was freaking out because we were driving home from Starbucks or something and they were calling us and telling us and me and my mom were freaking out in the car. And we're like we're going to get in a car accident because we were going crazy. No... but we were so excited! And it's just amazing how fast things can happen if you work so hard and put yourself with amazing people. And it's just so cool and I'm so excited. I can't wait.

Cambio: What's next for you?
Skylar: We have the TODAY show and I also have a performance in Ohio coming up called the New Albany Classic. After that, we're getting my new show ready with all the album material and hopeful I can start doing some more solo shows at venues and maybe go on a tour with somebody.

Cambio: If you could open for anyone on tour right now, who would it be?
Skylar: I really, really like Tori Kelly right now.

Check out Skylar's new music video for "That's What's Up" below and fet Skylar's debut album This Is Me on iTunes on Sept. 25.

Meek Mill Loses it on Fan Holding Up Drake Sign at His Concert

0

Fool's Gold Day OffA note for everyone: Do not bring a Drake sign to Meek Mill's concert (and vice versa).

The "Monster" rapper went completely off on a fan who thought it would be funny to hold up a Drake-related sign during Meek's Fool's Gold's annual Day Off Concert, cursing out the person who did it.

"Put that Drake sign up again, n***a," he can be seen saying to a concertgoer in an Instagram video. "F**k you talkin' 'bout, f**kin' clown? Don't ever come in here tryna pick on me like I'm a f**kin' dweeb or something." And that was just the beginning.
According to MTV, Meek continues going off in another video, saying in the mic, "We'll whoop you're a** in here tonight, boy. Don't make him leave, though. Let him have a good time. We at Fool's Gold, we here to have a good f**kin' good time. And that's what we gonna do: Have a f**kin' good time. But don't ever come in here playing with no f**kin' real life gangsta like it's a game." We can only imagine Drake's reaction to all of this.

In case you missed it, bringing a Drake sign to that show probably wasn't the best idea considering the beef the two rappers had earlier this summer (which clearly that concertgoer knew about).

Back in July, Meek and Drake went head to head in a Twitter/Instagram/rap battle, with Drake going on to release two diss tracks about Meek and Meek releasing one about Drake that fell so flat it was a little embarrassing.

This all went down after Meek went on a random Twitter rant and claimed that Drake doesn't write his own raps. After Drake smashed him with his diss tracks though, Meek announced on Instagram last month that he was squashing the beef (which was probably the best decision ever).

Kylie Jenner Shows Off Her Brains and Beauty in 'Galore'

2015 MTV Video Music Awards - ArrivalsKylie Jenner is beautiful, that's very, very obvious. But what a lot of people don't give her enough credit for is her amazing business sense.

The reality star has designed clothing lines with sister Kendall Jenner, she released a line of hair extensions with Bellami Hair, she's launching her own website (KylieJenner.com), which will feature beauty tutorials from the 18-year-old herself AND she bought her own $2.7 million house before she'd even turned 18.

In the new issue of Galore, Kylie opens up about some of the stuff she's been working on, and reveals how her famous fam has helped her fine-tune her business sense. Oh, and there are some seriously sexy photos in there, too, because Ky is proud to show that she has brains AND beauty!

In the interview, Kylie reveals that sister Kim Kardashian has inspired her the most, business-wise. "Kim has definitely inspired the business side of me the most," she told them. "It's her work ethic. If she wants to do something, she goes out and does it. She's really smart in that way."

Kim is known for having a REALLY good work ethic, and when the mag asked Kylie if she was the same way, she admits that she is, crediting their upbringing and the work ethic momager Kris Jenner instilled in them. "Well, my mom has raised us all like that. I am definitely like that. I need to be doing some type of work all the time," she said. "If I'm not working for two weeks, I freak out. But I also love having down time with friends."

A photo posted by King Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

Kris also helps Kylie when she might be doubting herself during some of these first-time business ventures. For example, she's working on a new lip kit and she admitted that she struggled with placing the order because she didn't know how many to request from the manufacturer. "I was like, Do I want to make this much? No, because nobody is going to buy it. I didn't want to order that much," she confessed. "But then my mom was like, 'Kylie, people are going to want your lip kit.' I guess sometimes that's all I need to not get nervous."

One more of @kyliejenner in Galore! @kittengalore 🎈🎉💥

A photo posted by Terry Richardson (@terryrichardson) on

As for the sexy photos, which were shot by famed photographer Terry Richardson, Kylie admits that it's been funny since she turned 18 because nobody is really mad at her for doing the adult things she was doing two weeks before her birthday. It's as if sexy photoshoots like this and all of the other things are somehow OK because she passed that milestone marker.

"It just makes no sense that, even a month ago, people were complaining that I was too young to be doing certain things, and now people are just okay with it because I'm grown. I don't know why that one day made such a difference, but it really does change things for people," she told them.

@kittengalore @terryrichardson this was the last shot on my way out!

A photo posted by King Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

And truth be told, Kylie says she doesn't even WANT to be 18. She tells the mag that she wishes she could be 17 for the rest of her life so she can just "be young and enjoy it."

We second that emotion!

Liam can braid hair. And really well, too!

The One Direction star took to Instagram to show off his hair styling work on girlfriend Sophia Smith and we are legit impressed with his mad hair skillz.

In one pic, Liam is seen in action - and while we know it's all about the hair, we can't help but give his new tattoos a serious stare down. Is Liam working on a sleeve or what?

Kourtney Kardashian Rides a Tricycle in a Bikini, Because Why Not?

Kourtney Kardashian celebrated Labor Day the same way the rest of us did, by riding a tricycle around her sprawling backyard in a shiny gold bikini. All right, maybe our holiday didn't look exactly like that...but whatever!

The newly-single reality star has been slaying lately - on Instagram, on the fashion front and pretty much just at life in general. She's been much more active on social media since splitting with Scott Disick and we love what we're seeing - not just because the mother of three looks smokin' hot in that swimsuit, which she does, but because we love Kourt and getting more of her is always a good thing.

Last night. 👩‍👩‍👧

In addition to this cute Labor Day photo, where the huge smile on Kourt's face definitely put one on ours, she's also shared funny things like this pic of her "spin class" with Khloe Kardashian while the family was on vacation in St. Barth's.

"#FBF to me and@khloekardashian riding bikes in the pool and me pretty much totally under water. #petitegirlprobs #stbarths," she captioned the pic, which wouldn't have been half as funny without that caption.

Fortunately, she was riding her tricycle on land, so drowning was not a concern this time around!

Caitlyn Jenner Shares Sweet Snapshot of Herself and Kendall: "Love My Little Girl"

Caitlyn Jenner is fairly new to social media, but she's figured things out pretty quickly. She's already broken a Twitter record, she's publishing a WhoSay blog and sharing sweet Instagram photos like these of herself spending quality time with her family and friends.

"So great spending time with @KendallJenner! Love my little girl," Cait captioned this photo of herself and daughter Kendall Jenner who, at 5-foot-10 and 19 years old, isn't little at all anymore, but a parent is a parent and we think it's adorable that Cait still thinks of her that way!

Judging by their outfits and the background, it looks like the pic was taken at Kylie Jenner's 18th birthday party, where Kylie shared this photo of all of them, along with some of their other friends and the caption, "My Girls."

We actually hadn't seen a close-up of Caitlyn until she shared the photo of herself and Kendall and she looks absolutely beautiful. Her hair is perfect, her makeup is perfect, and the smile on her face is just radiating joy.

Cait's family is very important to her, and she's obviously very important to them. We love that she's been sharing more candid moments like this with us and we love even more that she looks so genuinely happy.

For her son Burt's birthday over the weekend, she shared another cute candid pic of herself, Burt's girlfriend, Burt and their dog.

Burt, so glad to see you so happy. So proud of you, happy birthday. @bjenner

How to Give Yourself A Salon-Worthy Blowout at Home

0
0
Young woman drying her hair with a hair dryerWe don't know about you, but whenever we get our hair done, we preserve that amazing blowout for up to a week sometimes (with the help of some really great dry shampoo, of course).
beyonce gifBut wouldn't it be awesome if you could recreate that #flawless hair yourself? We tapped the talented AF Annie Rush, Stylist & Bridal Expert at NYC's Eva Scrivo salon, for a step-by-step guide to nailing that fresh-from-the-salon blowout. Here's her four-step process:

1. First, get comfortable! The more comfortable you are, the better the results. On medium-damp to damp hair, apply a heat protectant (like Shu Uemura Satin Design White Tea Polishing Milk, $39 or Kérastase Nectar Thermique, $43) from mid-shaft to ends, preventing damage from your dryer. Next, add volumizing product (like Shu Uemura Fiber Lift Volumizing Protective Gel, $39 or Kérastase Mouse Volumactive, $42) to the root area to give your hair a little extra lift. Gently comb through with a wide-tooth comb to ensure that the product is distributed evenly.

2. Section the hair into two large sections, starting at your temples and working back. Tie up and clip the sectioned hair at your crown with duckbill clips (like YS Park Japanese Clips, $15). At this point your hair should be half up, half down. Then divide the bottom area into five subsections. Drag a boar bristle brush (like Mason Pearson, $180 or Ibiza Hair Ex5, $52) though each section in a slight C motion while drying the hair with a blow dryer (like Turbo Power TwinTurbo 3200, $199) Then roll the brush through the ends a few times for a smooth finish. Continue on each subsection until the bottom half of your hair is dry.

3. Next, take the rest of your hair and section it into three subsections (one down the middle and one on each side of your head). Make sure that you are drying your hair in an upward motion in order to add lift at the root. This is especially important if you want your blowout to last a few extra days (writer's note: WE DO!). Start from the back and move forward, drying each section thoroughly. If you are having trouble getting a polished finish, don't hesitate to use your hands (just make sure they are clean!) to smooth out any frizz or flyaways.

4. Finish with a light hairspray (like Shu Uemura Sheer Lacquer Finishing Spray, $39) or add some dry texture spray (like Shu Uemura Texture Wave Dry Finishing Spray, $39) for a more a lived-in style. Remember that practice makes perfect!

There you have it, ladies - now let's see those Bey-worthy blowouts!

Caitlyn Jenner Isn't Offended by the Halloween Costume Created in Her Likeness

0
0
A lot of fans were outraged when they heard there was a Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume being sold online.

One version of the "costume" featured a white bustier, similar to the one Cait wore on her Vanity Fair cover, along with a wig and a sash that reads "Call Me Caitlyn," which is the headline that accompanied her VF cover.

A photo posted by Baller Alert (@balleralert) on

Twitter erupted with negative reactions to the costume idea, with people calling it everything from flat-out offensive to totally transphobic. There was even a Change.org petition created and signed by over 16,000 people, asking Spirit Halloween not to carry it in their stores.

Spirit Halloween stood by their decision to carry the costume, with a PR rep telling The New York Daily News "Caitlyn Jenner has proven to be the most important real-life superhero of the year, and Spirit Halloween is proud to carry the costume that celebrates her."

For what it's worth, even Cait appreciates the costume idea. In a sneak peek of her two-part interview with Matt Lauer, airing Wednesday and Thursday morning on Today, Cait told Matt that she thinks it's "great."

At one point, Matt asks her if she's in on the joke or if she thinks it's offensive. "I'm in on the joke. I don't think it's offensive at all. I know the community does and they've gotten a lot of criticism for doing it. I think it's great," she laughs.

She does, however, have one complaint about it. "They could have a better looking outfit for him, you know?" she joked, before lamenting that she hadn't thought of the idea first. "We could've done my own costume. I mean, that was a serious bustier on the cover of Vanity Fair, you know?"

Awww, Cait...we couldn't love you more if we tried!

This Poor K-Pop Singer Fell Eight Times During One Song

0

As any seasoned performer knows, stuff is going to happen while you're on stage and the show must go on. It could start raining, your mic might go out, a crazy audience member might try to jump on stage, or every performer's worst fear, you might fall flat on your face - literally - and the show MUST go on.

During one of Korean pop group GFriend's recent performances in South Korea, they learned this lesson the hard way. Well, at least one unlucky member of the girl band did.

The singer wearing the knee guard (an accessory that might have come in very handy), identified as Yuju by Mashable, ate it not once, not twice, but EIGHT times during one four-minute song.

Being a total pro, Yuju got right back up every single time and pretended like nothing ever even happened. Another fellow band member fell once, too, so there must have been something slippery on either their shoes or the stage and poor Yuju got the worst of it.

There was a full minute that she stayed on her feet, and we were very hopeful that Yuju had conquered the slippery stage, but then this happened...
150905 여자친구(GFRIEND) - 오늘부터 우리는 (Me gustas tu) @인제 SBS 라디오 공개방송 직캠/Fancam by -wA-
Nooooooooo, Yuju!!

Unfortunately, it just spiraled downward from there...

We have to give her credit, though, girlfriend is the definition of determination. She never gave up AND she rocked her performance, despite the eight setbacks.

'When Marnie Was There' Review, Plus Why You Need to Watch It

0

When Marnie Was There is probably the last movie Studio Ghibli will release in a long time. Following the retirement of the one and only Hayao Miyazaki, the Japanese animation film studio announced that they were going to stop production for a time, although they didn't specify how much time. And the fact that we won't have a Studio Ghibli movie for a while, is only one of the reasons why everyone should watch this film.

The movie follows young Anna, a girl who lives with her foster parents in Sapporo, as she's sent away for the summer to recover from a really bad asthma attack. So she now has to stay in Kushiro, a seaside town where she doesn't know anyone, but that's not a problem considering she's quite an introvert. One day, Anna sees an old abandoned house across a seaside marsh and, somehow, it seems familiar. That's when she starts having visions of a little blond girl called Marnie, who soon becomes her friend, but is also filled with mystery.
The animation in this film is breathtaking! Not only every shot in this movie looks like a masterpiece, but the heartbreaking story that we get to see in When Marnie Was There will leave many of you in tears. So anyone who loves animated features should give this a shot, not only because this movie is beautiful in more than one way and makes people learn that friendship can help through tough times, but also because we should support Studio Ghibli for the incredible films they keep giving us.

Do You Use the Word 'Retarded'?

I want to thank Aria Brown for recently reposting John Franklin Stephens' 2012 open letter to Ann Coulter on Facebook, because I think there are people out there who still dismiss the affects of this word, and it is inexcusable. In fact, I sincerely believe that this controversy from 3 years ago (in which Coulter called President Obama a retard on Twitter) resurfaced because the R-word is still a problem. The word was not only used by Coulter to insult the president, but it's in some people's everyday vernacular. These people may accuse me of overstepping political correctness, when really I see this issue as something far more serious, with shades of a particularly cruel ignorance that simply do not belong in the 21st century. Period.

I strongly encourage you to view Stephens' poignant letter in its entirety here, but I wanted to point out the part which had the most impact on me (even though, as a whole, I couldn't get through it with dry eyes).

I wondered if you meant to degrade [President Obama] as someone who is likely to receive bad health care, live in low grade housing with very little income and still manages to see life as a wonderful gift. Because, Ms. Coulter, that is who we are - and much, much more. After I saw your tweet, I realized you just wanted to belittle the President by linking him to people like me. You assumed that people would understand and accept that being linked to someone like me is an insult and you assumed you could get away with it and still appear on TV.

I am sick and tired of people using this word and thinking they can get away with it. You cannot. Not as a member of modern society. Stephens is spot-on when he says that Ms. Coulter is "not dumb" and "not shallow". Yes, there is plenty that she says to be disagreed with, but you know what Coulter, and anyone else who uses the R-Word really is? Mean-spirited. I want to shame Coulter not only as a mean-spirited human being, but also as a fellow history major. World history is pockmarked with instances of special-needs individuals being persecuted and mistreated. In fact, Nazi Germany's main logic behind systematically sterilizing and murdering people with special needs was that they were a burden on the supposed Aryan state and deserved to be pitied.

We have so much to learn from our history, most of all that individuals with special needs do not need our pity. In fact, they should be looked up to. It is our privilege as 21st century human beings that we get to learn from John Franklin Stephens and the thousands of others like him. The people who desperately need our pity are those like Coulter who have not yet opened themselves to that life-changing experience.
