If you don't know who Tom Schaar is, you clearly have not been keeping up with your news and pop culture! Recently a World Record in skateboarding was achieved - the first and only ever 1080 was landed. And not by Tony Hawk or Rob Drydek. This move was accomplished after only five tries by Tom Schaar, a 12 year old kid from Malibu, California.
Tom Schaar made history by skating up a 27-foot quarterpipe wall, then spinning three full rotations and landing with his board still underfoot in mid air. You can't help but be impressed by the video that captured this legendary move!
We caught up with Tom at the "Waiting For Lightning" premiere in Los Angeles, and he was all smiles. He is still adjusting to all the attention he has been getting, but it's all pretty cool to him. When we asked what his parents' response was when he told them he would be attempting this move, he laughed and said that they probably thought he was joking. Tom couldn't have been more humble during our interview, and we can't wait to see what else he has in store for his career. When we asked what's next, Tom just smiled and said, "More skateboarding." Watch out for this guy at the next X-Games!
See Tom break the world record here.
