Trace Cyrus Talks About His Biggest Inspirations During Home Studio Tour (Exclusive)

Have you ever wondered what life's like as a Cyrus? We were invited to tour Trace Cyrus' home music studio recently, where the 22-year-old opened up to us about his new project, Ashland High, growing up with Billy Ray Cyrus and little sister Miley Cyrus and moving in with his fiancée, Brenda Song.

Trace told us that when he and Brenda were looking for a home, he wanted one that had a room for him to focus on his music, "I was tired of getting on my girlfriend's nerves," he said.

The studio also serves as a storage room for all the equipment he had gathered while playing with his old band, Metro Station. Although the group has disbanded, Trace admits it was the best thing to get him started in the music business, and says they might tour together again one day.

"Who knows, I might one day... all of us might make up and tour again or something," he said. But basically I guess you can say we're taking a break. we just had a bunch of disagreements.

However, right now he's focusing on his new project, Ashland High, and they've just released an online album that can be downloaded for free. Trace says writing for Ashland High is different than writing for Metro Station because he has matured.

Trace's studio also features Led Zeppelin posters for inspiration, particularly the famous photo of Led Zeppelin with their private plane is one that motivates him. His other inspiration is his dad, Billy Ray Cyrus.

"I grew up on a tour bus," he told us. "My dad's my biggest inspiration for music. He's the reason I make my own music."

But dad and sister Miley are too supportive to tell Trace if a song is bad or good.

"Miley, she's always pretty into my stuff," he said. "At the end of the day, I have to tell myself, if I love the song, it doesn't matter who in my family, Miley, my dad, anyone, I feel like if it represents me, then I have to go with it."
