Why Did Khloe Skip Kim Kardashian's Surprise Birthday Party?

$

NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment 2014 UpfrontKanye West threw Kim Kardashian a surprise birthday party yesterday and the whole Kardashian/Jenner crew was there. Well, everyone except for Khloe Kardashian.

Khloe flew to Las Vegas on October 13 to be with Lamar Odom when he was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel, but when Lamar was transferred back to a Los Angeles hospital this week, not far from where Khloe lives, which would give her more of an opportunity to divide her time between the hospital and her regular day-to-day life if she wanted to.

For the time being, Khloe is staying wherever Lamar is and according to Us Weekly, that's exactly why she didn't go to Kim's party, even though it was just a short drive from the hospital. "Lamar isn't doing that well," a source told them. "He can't stand up by himself. She is still very worried about him and uncomfortable with leaving."
Teen Choice 2011 - Arrivals
Plus, with all that Khloe has been through in the last week and a half, it stands to reason that she's not exactly in a partying mood.

As for the rest of the fam, they enjoyed a special screening of Universal Pictures' Steve Jobs film at Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas in Westlake Village. Given that his wife is currently in her third trimester of pregnancy, it seemed fitting to have a pregnancy-themed party, which is exactly what Kanye did - he even had everyone wear fake pregnancy bellies!

I wasn't expecting to look this way again quite yet, but Happy Pregnant Birthday @kimkardashian !! 🎥👼🏼🎂🎁

BeautyCon CEO Says Beauty Is not About Looking Perfect (Phew!)

Moj Mahdara has always been obsessed with media. Growing up to the tunes of MTV, Moj later parlayed her passion into consulting agencies focused on digital entertainment. Now, she's the CEO of BeautyCon, the biggest event (that we know of, anyway) to bring together the world of digital influencers, the brands they use and their fans. It's not a stretch to say that Moj knows the definition of #BUILTBYGIRLS pretty well.

For Moj, BeautyCon's appeal had all to do with its ability to reach people: "I think that as someone, who is a minority in a couple different ways, the thing that spoke to me massively about BeautyCon was that there was nothing like this for me when I was a teenager, and music was the thing that inspired me and made me feel like I had a community. I love the connectivity and the inspiration."

Beyond promoting new products, BeautyCon is all about allowing fans to get in touch with those YouTubers they watch religiously. But despite being seen as solely "Internet famous," there is something about a YouTube sensation that sparks what Moj refers to as "fandamonium."
NYX Cosmetics - BeautyCon NY 2015"It's a tenacious, vivacious, loud, expressive, diverse audience. There are people here of all walks, of all colors, of all shapes and sizes and neutral in gender who are basically here to celebrate themselves and have a really great time," she said.

Unlike your typical TV or movie star, a creator, as Moj refers to them, actually talks back to their audience, fostering a sense of connection that shows the vloggers' devotion to their fans.

"I think these creators have done a good job of being consistent and of being available. I mean, they talk back to their fans," Moj explained. "Like, how many celebrities have you seen that [tweet] back? It's a one way conversation like, 'I put out a record, and I put out some content, and you talk amongst yourselves.' These creators are like, 'Hey, I saw that you didn't like this video, or I see you had a misunderstanding about something I posted.'"

Part of this contagious sense of excitement and expression comes from the fact that these creators are completely themselves 100 percent of the time. Not only do they show themselves without makeup, they post videos being silly, or they'll post a vlog featuring their daily routines.
2nd Annual BeautyCon New York City Festival"Why they're connecting to such a huge audience because they are really open and vulnerable about who they are and what they're growing through." she said.

As a result, their viewers are inspired to be themselves as well, allowing us to view beauty as more of an enhancement of who we are, rather than compensation for what we're not. Moj added that the spirit of being who you are (promoted by these vloggers) is helping BeautyCon transform the fashion and beauty sphere in a way that is more inclusive.

"We wanted to redefine how beauty is expressed and how it's approached for the general market. Beauty [products] used to make you thinner, whiter, blacker...[but now] it's more of a celebration of you, it's a celebration of expression, freedom. It's redefining beauty in a way that even guys are here wearing makeup," she explained. "I think this audience has taken beauty back into its own arms, and they're redeveloping what that means to them. It's not about how to look perfect all of the time."
2nd Annual BeautyCon New York City FestivalWith a new spot for beauty cropping up in niche blogs all over the Internet, makeup and fashion no longer has to be about what we should be hiding, or which celebrity we are meant to look like. Instead, the online beauty community has created a network that promotes being yourself, and opening a dialogue about what beauty means for you. And now BeautyCon is the event that is bringing them all together.

"I think it's good for society; I think it's good for us," Moj concluded. "I think that everyone is excited for this new part of the beauty movement."

This Swimsuit is All About Saving the Ocean

Imagine if the next time you dove into the ocean, you and your freestyle soaked up more than just a few sun rays - even left your fave swim spot better than how you found it. What if you could actually absorb some of the surface-level pollutants (the ones left behind from thousands of oceanic oil spills every year), effectively leaving the ocean cleaner just by taking a dip in it?
wearable tech
That might not be such an outlandish idea, thanks to the Sponge Suit designed by Mihri and Cengiz Ozkan, two University of California Riverside professors. The genius suit, constructed for Reshape15's Wearable Technology Competition, uses 3D printing and nanoscale material research to create one seriously stylish, planet-saving two piece.

Sponge Suit
So, how does it work? The bikini's outer shell is made from 3D printed flexible elasto plastic, but it's the filler material that's unlike anything you've ever worn before.

Its sponge fillers, made from a heated form of sugar, are able to capture water's pollutants - absorbing contaminants up to 25 times the weight of the suit's material! But don't worry, the icky stuff won't escape from the suit until it's purposely heated up to 1,000 degrees Celsius. After this intense heating process, the sustainable material can be reshaped into the suit and used for many ocean-saving swims to come.

Want to see the suit's material in action? Take a look at the video below.

Make it Stop: McDonald's Introduces Gray-Bunned Burger

Could McDonald's be trying to make up for the confusion surrounding their location-specific all-day breakfast menu? If not, we're all out of explanations for why a Mickey D's in China is offering a burger with a gray-ish bun. Yeah - our mouths aren't watering either.

As reported by MTV, the new burger is known as "The Modern China" and it features possibly the most unappetizing food color palette to ever exist. The sandwich is basically a pork patty BLT, except in this case, the "T" stands for Thousand Island Dressing - Sichuan style. Also, the bun is made from a steamed bread called mantou (which is not originally gray, so WTF?).
Wow. This new spin on a burger kind of leaves us speechless, TBH. Between this gray-colored burger bun and Burger King's black-bunned Whopper (which turns your poop neon green, BTW), the future of fast food looks rather grim.

Now the question is, who's up for finding out what type of effect the gray McD's burger has on their poop? The lucky (or not) individuals who want a firsthand experience have until Nov. 3 to head over to China to try The Modern China, that is, unless they share our sentiments on the burger.

Kanye Made Everyone Wear Baby Bumps to Kim Kardashian's Birthday Party

Kanye West sure knows how to throw a party (not that we're surprised).

Just when we thought things couldn't get more epic than his marriage proposal to Kim Kardashian, he threw her the sweetest surprise birthday party ever. For her big 3-5, Kanye had all of her friends and family come dressed as their "best pregnant Kim" and gave them fake baby bumps when they arrived.

"I wasn't expecting to look this way again quite yet, but Happy Pregnant Birthday @kimkardashian !!," Kourtney Kardashian captioned a shot of her, Kylie Jenner and Kris Jenner showing off their baby bumps. Kylie took things a step further and threw on a butt pad for good measure.
Kanye not only surprised Kim with the pregnant bash, but he also provided a gorgeous white tiered birthday cake that had "Happy Pregnant Birthday Kim" written in gold letters on the front of it, and it was surrounded by white roses (and that was still just the beginning).
"My husband never ceases [to] amaze me!," Kim captioned a shot of her birthday cake. "He rented out the entire movie theater to screen the new Steve Jobs (It's sooooo good BTW) and had all of my family & close friends come dressed up as their best pregnant Kim look (fake baby bumps provided on arrival!) Not sure if that was to make me feel less huge or just a fun cool theme but I loved it & had the best time ever, feeling so very comfortable eating churros with a bunch of pregnant women! Just what I needed, the perfect chill yummy food birthday!!!!

Kanye seriously gave us so many feels with this one. #husbandgoals

This Is Not a Drill: McDonald's Is Testing Sweet Potato Fries

McDonald's November Sales Down Lower Than ExpectedWe've hardly had time to fully indulge in the fact that McDonald's is now serving breakfast all day and now they're tempting us with yet another delicious menu change that could just be a deal-breaker for our diet.

One of their restaurants in Texas is currently testing sweet potato fries. Yes, sweet potato fries. If you've ever had them, your mouth is probably watering just reading the words. Now picture that deliciousness done Mickey D's style. Because let's be honest, there is just something special about McDonald's fries. So, there will obviously be that same special something about their sweet potato fries.
Of course, some people thought this whole sweet potato fries thing might be too good to be true, but McDonald's actually confirmed it in a statement to Eater. "Sweet potato fries are being tested in some Create Your Taste test restaurants in Amarillo, and we're gathering valuable customer feedback on them," they told the site, via email.

We're lovin' it and we haven't even tried it!

Kalin and Myles' New Music Video Leaves Us 'Brokenhearted'

Savor The Sound Powered By McDonald's And PandoraKalin and Myles just released the music video for their new single "Brokenhearted" and it literally feels like an attack. The #KAMFAM streamed the track all week on Spotify to unlock the video and luckily their efforts finally paid off today.

The music video features the hip-hop duo getting hyphy in the function, meaning the ratio is right and both K and M have potential baes to dance with. These guys are seriously talented dancers, so you already know their moves in this video are as fresh as ever.

But honestly, why aren't we dating Kalin or Myles...or at least landing roles as extras in this video? They're so adorable it physically hurts us. Plus, we like glow sticks and pool parties.

A photo posted by KalinAndMyles (@kalinandmyles) on

Kalin and Myles are currently on tour with one of our other fave male duos, Timeflies. Honestly, it's the tour our dreams are made of. If it's coming to a city near you, we definitely suggest you be there.

This duo is also releasing their highly anticipated new album on Nov. 20. We cannot wait for them to bless us with more new music.

Until then, check out the "Brokenhearted" music video below.

Worth It?! YouTube Wants You to Pay For Their New Service

youtube logo on the front view...Free content on YouTube is a serious perk: you can watch One Direction videos all day, everyday and not have to pay a dime to witness the boy band's dreaminess. That all is about to change - YouTube could be asking you to shell out some cash in the near future, because it's about to launch a subscription service of its very own.

Before you totally freak out, relax: your typical YouTube videos will remain free. (Phew!) The new subscription service, called YouTube Red, won't take away any free content, but it will start charging interested subscribers who want to take advantage of the new features. These features include ad-free video play (so bye, bye, Tampax commercials before your cute puppy videos), the ability to save videos for offline play, and exclusive content from YouTube personalities. YouTube Red users will also have ad-free access to yet-to-be-launched app YouTube Music, which builds personalized song playlists.

The features of YouTube Red definitely sound cool, but I'm not so sure the price tag is worth it. The YouTube Red subscription fee is $9.99 per month, which isn't terrible until you consider the other services you could be paying for as well, like Netflix, Spotify, and Hulu. Ultimately, that ish adds up: I'm not sure another $9.99 charge per month for a service that doesn't supply endless Friends reruns is worth it.Of course, all of that remains to be seen: the service will officially launch on Oct. 28. Ad-haters everywhere, mark your calendars.

Lauren Conrad's Halloween Costume Will Give You Total Squad Goals

Sixth-Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, Los Angeles - ArrivalsLauren Conrad never ceases to amaze us with her DIY Halloween costume ideas.

After rocking makeshift mermaid and Tooth Fairy costumes in previous years, LC brought it again this year with a costume that is, well, wild (literally). The Laguna Beach alum and her friends are dressing up as party animals this year and she not only showed off their costumes, but how to make them too.

A photo posted by Lauren Conrad (@laurenconrad) on

"So excited to be a bunch of "Party Animals" this Halloween!!," she captioned the photo on Instagram, which showed Lauren and three friends palming champagne and lounging on an ivory couch in flowy neutral dresses and animal ears (deer, bunny, bear and cat). Total squad goals.

Here's why this is kinda the best Halloween costume we've seen thus far: You can do this with your friends for cheap. If you happen to be a DIY queen like Lauren, you and your friends can make this yourselves using the instructions on her website, and if you're not, you can still pull off this look by buying some animal ears. #FTW

As far as we're concerned, LC reigns supreme when it comes to DIY Halloween costumes (we couldn't wait to see what she came up with this year). Anyone who can glue together shells and sequins and make it into a killer Mermaid costume - like she did last year - is someone after our hearts.

Why Virtual Reality Is Fashion's Next Frontier

pretty casual worker using...One giant leap for...platform heels?

Once upon a time, it felt like tech and fashion couldn't be more different. But as once-nerdy tech has become an industry to reckon with, popular girl fashion is slowly coming around. And we ship this pretty hard.

via GIPHY

Earlier this week, designer to the preppy masses Tommy Hilfiger made it possible for you to watch a full 360-degree virtual reality version of his fall runway show in the NYC Fifth Avenue store. Shoppers have practically the same experience as someone who attended the Park Armory Avenue fashion show on February 16. Actually, it's even better: You get to go backstage, reports Quartz.

After you've taken it all in, you can shop the fall collection right there in the store. GENIUS.

Tommy joins other high-fashion brands like Burberry, which made headlines last year for digitizing the in-store experience - by providing tablets to both retail associates and shoppers, among other examples - under the initial direction of #GirlBoss Angela Ahrendts, now the head of retail at Apple (another tech company that can say it's #BUILTBYGIRLS!).

Rebecca Minkoff is also hyper focused on tech, launching virtual reality headsets that it created with Google's Cardboard (literally, it's a cardboard thing you assemble to turn your smartphone into a VR machine) on its retail site last month. Last year, RM began installing interactive touchscreen mirrors in dressing rooms, so that you can choose which items you want to try on right from the fitting room. Oh, and you can order a drink, too. Neat.

Abi Mandelbaum, CEO and co-founder of YouVisit, a self-described "platform for creating, sharing and managing virtual reality and digitally immersive experiences across devices," says this is only the beginning.

"Retailers have started taking advantage of this new technology by creating fully immersive experiences that allow customers to get a feel for a brand, store or product before actually committing," says Abi. "Virtual reality is bound to make a huge impact when it comes to marketing in the retail industry, especially as social media channels like Facebook have begun supporting 360-degree video. Finally, as virtual reality becomes more robust, brands will be able to offer consumers the ability to purchase items directly from their experiences, greatly increasing the technology's value to both brands and users."

We're excited to see which of our fave brands catch the tech bug and start implementing cool new digital features in their stores. Get in, b****, we're going shopping.

Lucy Hale and Rascal Flatt's "Let It Go" Is Finally Here

At this point, just about everyone has covered Frozen's "Let It Go." Still, fans went wild when it was revealed that Lucy Hale and Rascal Flatts were going to release their take on the song...and they didn't disappoint.

Their cover of "Let It Go," for the We Love Disney compilation album, finally debuted Wednesday, with the singers belting out the song with country swagger...and it sounds surprisingly fresh (we could listen to it on repeat).

"Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd get to say, 'yeah I got to sing with Rascal Flatts,'" the Pretty Little Liars star said in a video clip on Twitter. "It actually happened and now I can cross that off my bucket list. It's super amazing. I still can't really believe it. It's still kind of sinking in.

When the news of their duet surfaced back in August, Lucy posted a screenshot of their song, along with the caption, "Well...dreams come true. Got to record a duet with my musical idols @rascalflatts for the #WeLoveDisney album coming out October 30! The cold never bothered me anyway...@Disney @welovedisney."

The country crooners are just the latest stars to team up for songs for the Disney album. Ariana Grande, Jason Derulo, Ne-Yo, Tori Kelly, Gwen Stefani and Jhene Aiko also have songs on it, among many others.
Album producer David Foster (a.k.a. Gigi and Bella Hadid's dad) dished to Rolling Stone on how he got so many big names to participate in the project, telling the mag, ""I was having lunch with Gwen Stefani, and I just popped out [asking], 'What's your favorite Disney song?' and she said, 'That's a strange question." He added, "But then she thought about it, and she gave me one. I realized that everybody - young, old, hip, not hip, whoever - they all have some attachment to Disney, and it's always positive. In Gwen's case, she said, 'We used to sneak into [Disneyland] and watch bands. Then it was really cool to play there one day.' It wasn't as hard as I thought it was, in the end."

The album can be pre-ordered on ITunes now, but it will officially be released Oct. 30.

Harry Styles Explains Why Liam Payne Was Too Sick to Perform: 'It Wasn't Pretty'

Why liam payne was too sick canceled one direction concertWhen One Direction recently had to cancel a concert because Liam Payne was too sick to perform, our minds immediately went to 'stomach bug.' Honestly, what else but that would keep a professional like Liam from hitting the stage?

While rumors have been flying that Liam had some kind of a breakdown before the show, we knew in our hearts that he probably had eaten something that didn't agree with him.

Well, Harry Styles is confirming what we knew in our gut all along. Hey, somebody had to shut down all the rumors, even if the truth is less than lovely.

When BBC Radio 2's Chris Evens asked Harry if there was anything he could send Liam to feel better, Harry responded, "Pepto-Bismol. It's a stomach thing, right?"

Trying to explain the whole scene without getting too graphic proved to be a huge challenge for Harry, who danced around with this answer: "It's like...he just, he was very ill. It was kind.. it was kinda not ah...it wasn't, it wasn't pretty."

While Harry explained again how disappointed they were to cancel, it seems the option of going on without Liam was a total no-go, as Harry said: "Three's not many, man - there's a lot of stuff going on onstage and Liam's always a huge part of everything, he sings a lot."

We're just glad Liam's feeling better now!

Justin Bieber Admits That He Felt Totally 'Violated' Over Those Nude Pictures

Justin Bieber at Ed Sheeran's movie premiereJustin Bieber wasn't too happy about those d-pictures floating around the internet. The Biebs recently revealed in an interview that those leaked photos of him in the buff while on vacation in Bora Bora were a nightmare come true.

Bieber reportedly told Access Hollywood that he was not happy with the photos, but he was careful to also comment on their content. "My first thing was like, how can they do this?" he said. "Like, I feel super violated. Like, I feel like I can't step outside and feel like I can go outside naked."

Justin also reportedly threatened to sue the publication that released the pics. That was until EVERYONE started talking about how...well, um, blessed he is.

The Biebs' is not the first man with the last name Bieber to comment on the photos. In a move that was equally abhorrent as his son's comment, Justin's pops Jeremy Bieber gave his gross-me-out input last week, writing in a now-deleted tweet, "@justinbieber what do you feed that thing. #proud daddy."

No, just no.

It's homecoming season and guys around the nation are all struggling with one very important question: "How do I ask my date to the dance?"
When I was in high school, you simply decorated your crush's car with flowers or left anonymous notes on their desk before they got to class. But, wow, have times changed...

Nowadays, homecoming "proposals" are more elaborate than ever - just look at this video that George Mugnani and Adam Zybko made for this year's festivities.

The video contains everything from choreography, "fresh" outfits, Shia Labeouf...and did we mention that they do their own stunts? (Well...sorta)

Let's hope that their two lucky ladies, Emma and Claire, said yes!

Are you always the first person to know about the latest awesome app? Do you have tons of ideas for your own? Here's your chance to make your tech dreams a reality. Verizon has launched the Verizon Innovative App Challenge, and it's the perfect way to develop your brilliant ideas for real.

If you're in middle school or high school or have a sponsoring non-profit organization, you can join the Verizon App Challenge. Here's how it works: you assemble a team of five to seven participants as interested in app creation as you are, as well as a teacher or other faculty member willing to be the team's adviser. To enter the contest, each team will come up with an app idea that can tackle problems that they see around their community, specifically issues that somehow relate to them. The team will then explain their project in the form of essay questions and a three-minute video hashtagged with the contest's #VZAppChallenge tag.

Every student who participates in the contest will learn great team building skills and get to work on a real STEM proposal, so entering the contest alone is pretty worthwhile. If your team does get accepted into a higher round, however, you could be looking at an even bigger prize - so why not enter here and give it a shot?

Best In State winners will receive a $5,000 grant for their school, mobile tablets for the team members, and the ability to compete for People's Choice Winner, which will receive the same benefits as the Best In Nation team. The Best In Nation team will receive the most perks: the team will receive an additional $15,000 grant for their school or out-of-school program, coding training from MIT experts, and an all-expenses-paid trip for each team member next summer. Sweet, right? But don't just take our word for it: Bill Nye the Science Guy is the spokesperson for the contest, and if there's anyone you can trust with STEM stuff, it's this guy. Enter now and up your tech game - because what's better than scrolling through an app that you built, right?

Who Is the Girl in the One Direction 'Perfect' Video?

who is girl one direction perfect video
If you're like us, when you watched One Direction's "Perfect" music video, you wondered who the lucky girl was who got to hang out with them (and be in the video, OMG!).

Is she part of the 1D entourage, a lucky fan, an actress, or a real reporter...WHO is this mystery woman?

Turns out, that's Dana Matthews, who works as Senior Editor for GQ magazine and is the former Teen Vogue Entertainment Director.

Since Teen Vogue has some history with Dana, they got the inside scoop on this once-in-a-lifetime moment to make a cameo in a One Direction video.

Her involvement is pretty cool, as she described her ongoing relationship with One Direction and Columbia records as "big" and that she's "loved working with them" in the past. Dana noted that their publicist "is a good friend of mine and asked me to be in the video as someone in the journalism world they trust and know well."

Imagine having that inside connection? Amazing.

She also admitted that she was "in shock" when she got the call to be in the video.

Dana also explained filming the scene she's in, saying that since they shot the guys giving her a hug several times, "I got lots of hugs." Not a bad gig to have at all.

At that table, Dana got to talk with the guys and she explained, "They were telling me all these fun stories about tour. I was laughing so hard. I can't believe they included the part where Harry covered my eyes - that was definitely not planned."
