It doesn't take a basketball fan to know that NBA star LeBron James making huge moves in the sports arena, but he's also dedicated to helping others win off the court as well. Fresh off the success of his starring role in Amy Schumer's Trainwreck, the 30-year-old star announced plans to partner with other major businesses through his LeBron James Family Foundation to pay full college tuition for 1100 students who attend school in his hometown at the University of Akron in Ohio.Speaking on his latest charitable efforts, LeBron told Today, "At this rate, we've got 1,100 kids in our program, and if I can put 1,100 kids into college free, that means I'll have done something, (and) the University of Akron, JPMorgan and Chase and my foundation have done something great to give back."
As plenty of college students can attest, paying tuition can be pose a major challenge, which is fortunately being acknowledged by celebrities like LeBron and huge companies like Starbucks, which offers free tuition to all its employees. Having their full academic career financed by a superstar athlete probably won't help the students improve their jump shot, but it will certainly help to reduce potential financial burdens while they focus on attaining their degrees.
Needless to say, we consider LeBron's plan to give back as a total slam dunk, and look forward to seeing more celebrities and corporations follow his lead.
