Robin Antin was the mastermind behind that sexy girl group, and now she's giving it another go. G.R.L. was put together in 2010 after The Pussycat Dolls split, with hopes of them becoming the next generation of dolls. We got a call from the girls (Simone Battle, Lauren Bennett, Natasha Slayton, Emmalyn Estrada, Paula Van Oppen,) and here are the 5 things you should know about them.
5: They didn't have an official audition. "I was friends with Robin and she decided that she wanted to put another group together and I was the first member," Lauren told us. "Paula, we met through another friend and Natasha was a friend of mine before." They managed to snatch Simone after she was on X Factor, "They watched her on the show and got a hold of her." And Emmalyn was "found through music. It took some time to find the right people," Lauren said.
4: With Robin being the one who put them together, they already have a head start with a certain group of fans. "A lot of the Pussycat Doll fans are our fans too. They've really stuck with Robin and they're so supportive and they love us."
3: The girls say their sound is "Definitely pop and mainstream. We're very fun!" But they also know how lucky they are. "We do a lot of song writing on our own, but we're also really happy to write with the best song writers in the world." (They've worked with Dr. Luke and Max Martin who have worked with mega-watt names like Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears and Katy Perry.)
2: "We take a little thing from every girl group," Emmalyn said. "Destiny's Child for sure. Girls that sing and dance. The Spice Girls had such a good energy about them." Mel B, AKA Scary Spice, even offered them a piece of advice when she was in their "Vacation" music video. "She said 'Stick together!' and it's the truth," Simone told us. "If we don't have a bond between us, then it won't be real."
1: They're featured on Pitbull's song "Wild Wild Love." and they couldn't be more proud of each other. "Over time we've become such good friends. The thing is, this wouldn't be fun without these girls. We're all meant to be here," Emmalyn said. "We really have to respect each other, be there and have each other's back."
