Lady Gaga Twitter
Earlier this week, Lady Gaga tweeted: "Just killed back to back spin classes. Eating a salad dreaming of a cheeseburger #PopSingersDontEat #IWasBornThisWay."
With 22 million followers on Twitter, Lady Gaga has quite a reach.
She received a lot of angry responses from fans and critics slammed her for seeming to glorify anorexia.
One follower tweeted: "Why would you even promote a message like that? Disgusting that you'd joke about such a serious illness."
Another Twitter user added, "I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but if not... Wow, that's an awful example you're setting."
Still another wrote: "dear @ladygaga, you just blatantly endorsed anorexia to over 22 million followers. how do you sleep at night?"
One follower questioned: "@ladygaga pick a side... Do you want to promote beautiful and healthy kids, or anorexia?"
It's likely that Gaga was just joking about her "pop singers don't eat" hashtag, but that's a lot of fans following her that could get the wrong message.
The National Eating Disorders Association chimed in with their two cents as well, asking: "Huh? This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting?"
Lady Gaga, who herself has admitted that she suffered from an eating disorder in the past, told a teen audience at a conference in February: "I'm gonna say this about girls: The dieting wars have got to stop. Everyone just knock it off. Because at the end of the day, it's affecting kids your age - and it's making girls sick."
So what gives, Gaga?
