Jennifer Lawrence may have taken some heat from PETA for skinning a squirrel in the film 'Winter's Bone,' but she has some choice words for the animal rights organization.

"Screw PETA," Jennifer told Rolling Stone in a recent interview.

To back up a bit, PETA was not pleased with the graphic scene in 'Winter's Bone' where Jennifer's character skins a squirrel.

Lawrence responded in the interview, "I should say it wasn't real, for PETA. But screw PETA."

PETA, naturally, wasn't thrilled with the comment, as their president, Ingrid Newkirk, released a statement that said: "She's young and the plight of animals somehow hasn't yet touched her heart. As Henry David Thoreau said, 'The squirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest.'"

Newkirk added, "We are told that this squirrel was hit by a car, but when people kill animals, it is the animals who are 'screwed,' not PETA, and one day I hope she will try to make up for any pain she might cause any animal who did nothing but try to eke out a humble existence in nature."

Later, PETA seemed to pull back a bit, telling Gossip Cop: "That was just a throw-away remark, and we have our bet on Jennifer ending up joining the ranks of other young celebrities like Natalie Portman, Lea Michele, and Kellan Lutz, who are using their influence to help animals."

It's interesting to note that PETA is just bringing up the squirrel skinning scene from 'Winter's Bone,' a movie that was released in 2010. Why not bring up their concerns at the time the movie was out - is it because Jennifer Lawrence is a big name since her fame as Katniss in 'The Hunger Games'?

Should Jennifer have slammed PETA in the interview? She's drawing criticism for her remark from some and applause for standing up to PETA from others.

Somehow PETA bringing this to light two years after the movie was released screams of a PR stunt, doesn't it?

Should they be putting the blame on Jennifer, who is just an actor playing a part and following the script?
