After placing third on Canadian Idol in 2007 and releasing music after the show, it was Carly's single "Call Me Maybe," that caught the attention of fellow Canadian Justin Bieber. To make a long story short, earlier this year, Bieber along with Scooter Braun, signed her to their label, Schoolboy Records.
We had a chance to chat to the Canadian newcomer and she opened up about Bieber, 'Hunger Games', and of course music.
Dying to know if she hangs out with The Biebs now that she's a part of his team, it was disappointing to hear that they actually don't hang out all of the time like we assumed.
"He just seems like a chill, down-to-earth guy. I met him at the studio and I could see that he is who is for a reason. He's so talented, he blows my mind. But no, I don't hang with him a lot," she said.
Okay, so they aren't BFFs...yet, BUT we were curious if he tried hooking her up with any of his pals yet. You know how he is, Justin loves to play cupid via Twitter, just ask Kendall Jenner! But nope, nothing like that with Carly, plus she tell us, she has a boyfriend! Aww!
It was interesting to find out that she actually doesn't have a TV. Yep, a girl who was on Canadian Idol, doesn't even watch TV. (Although that could be a good thing because said told us jokingly that just hearing the music from that show still gives her heart murmurs.) The no TV thing isn't by choice though. Her roomie moved out and took the TV so she just hasn't gotten around to getting another one. Give her a break, she is working on music and all!
Still in the midst of trying to be a normal 26-year-old, doing shows and working on her own music, Carly admitted that she's a book lover. So, you know we had to ask about The Hunger Games...
"I haven't seen the movie yet but the books were amazing. It's going to be hard to top those. I'm totally team Peeta."
So are we Carly, so are we.
Being from Canada, she has began to love American radio and admits that she's really diggin' The Wanted and Fun. right now. She grew up listening to oldies and admires Joni Mitchell.
Girl's got good taste!
Overall, Carly gets our approval! It seems like Scooter and Bieber have a good asset on their Schoolboy team. It'll be exciting to see what Carly Rae Jepsen has in store for us and the music world. If we know Scooter and Justin like we think we do, she's in perfect hands and will get that "world tour she always dreamed of" and much more.
