It was a star-studded night at the GRAMMY Foundation's MusiCares gala where attendees gathered to honor Sir Paul McCartney as Person of the Year. Those who walked the red carpet included everyone from Christina Perri, Jason Mraz, Foo Fighters, India Arie to legends like Herbie Hancock to Hollywood elite like Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson. Katy Perry also performed at the event.

Jason Mraz captured the essence of the night as he explained what a great cause MusiCares is, not only because they throw the best party of the year, but also because MusiCares helps out musicians who have fallen on hard times. Herbie Hancock added that there are many musical heroes who need the help of MusiCares.

When it comes to his music, it was obvious that Paul McCartney had inspired every person on the carpet that night. Christina Perri's favorite songs from Sir Paul's catalog are "I Will," "Calico Skies" and "Maybe, I'm Amazed." India Arie said that Paul McCartney inspired her to be both unique and simple, while Rita Wilson reminisced about how she learned harmonies by listening to the songs of The Beatles. Rita Wilson believes that there are just too many favorites for her to pick only one, but her hubby Tom Hanks wanted to be original with his choice of song, citing the B-sides like "Dr Robert" as his favorites. Other favorites included "Fool on a Hill" for singer Alison Krauss, "Blackbird" for India Arie and "Heart of the Country" for Jason Mraz.

Make sure to check back over the weekend for more coverage of the 2012 GRAMMY Awards.
