'Smash' Is Like 'Glee' In Five Years... And It's Kinda Awesome

Smash is like if Rachel Berry graduated from McKinley, attended NYADA and was now pounding the pavement looking for a leading role, without a single Broadway credit to her name. And it's awesome.

In the show, Karen Cartwright, played by the immensely-talented Katharine McPhee, who has been long under-valued as the star that she is (life imitating art much?) finds herself in stiff competition with a blonde bombshell named Ivy Lynn (played by Megan Hilty) for the coveted role of Marilyn Monroe in a new musical called Marilyn.

Similar to Glee, there are show-stopping musical numbers in Smash and the show has already double-dipped into Glee's catalog with Katharine's rendition of Christina Aguilera's Beautiful during the series premiere. There are also original numbers, part of the show's fictional production of Marilyn, which we wouldn't be surprised if (depending on whether or not the show becomes wildly popular) it turns into an actual stage production.

In any case, we're exited to see the show develop and particularly looking forward to Nick Jonas' appearance on Feb 27. Tell us, are you going to watch Smash? What did you think of the premiere episode?
