The stars of Big Miracle, Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski and Kristen Bell may have had to film their scenes in frigid temperatures in Alaska, but they certainly wasted no time warming up to each other, as evidenced in this exclusive interview with the cast about their upcoming movie."I got to get close. Real close," John says of a particularly hilarious scene where he has to lick the eyeball of one of his costars whose eye has frozen shut in the cold. "I feel like the only way to get to the next level in any friendship is to lick people's eyeballs. It's a weird thing but I made them write it into the script. That's not true, it was in the script first."
The actors also had a laugh poking fun at the fashion their characters wear in the film. Kristen, who plays L.A. news reporter Jill Gerard wears her fair share of blazers with shoulder pads and John's character is never without a turtleneck and a puffy vest.
The movie is based on real-life events from 1988, when three whales became trapped under the ice in Alaska and the federal government (and the Soviet Union) stepped in to try to free them. The entire world was captivated, which back then was even harder to do given that there were not instantaneous channels to transmit news via the Internet like social media sites and blogs.
"Back then you had to wait for the national news to pick something up and make it a story which was so powerful, and now its one tweet or one Facebook page about one thing can start an entire movement," John said.

"I just love the story so much," Drew, who plays a Greenpeace volunteer, said. "I need to hear stories where people can put their differences aside and make something amazing happen."
"It's a really sweet movie, but you need a little more than that in movies these days and I think that the message is incredible," John said. "The fact that it all happened and on such a huge scale... it's just [an] incredible thing how powerful that is and how uplifting that is.
