Charlie Bewley, really playing against type from his role as the vampire Demetri in the Twilight franchise).
The single-dose revelation is confirmed back at Casa Gilbert by Klaus, Caroline and Tyler, thanks to some fancy Da Vinci Code cryptexting.
Of course, both Damon and Stefan make swooning, selfless proclamations that Elena deserves the cure, which rankles Rebekah--especially after Stefan and Elena's friendly bonding session. (How many Stelena fans fainted?)
Silas rewards his mercenary with the tombstone ("made of Qetsiyah's calcified blood-more valuable than the Hope diamond), but he doesn't get to enjoy his prize: Damon and Vaughn find his dead body, proving that another killer is loose on the island, whose name might or might not rhyme with Batherine.
In the caverns, Jeremy and Bonnie work their magic, but Professor Shane breaks his leg from the falling rocks. (At least someone got what they deserved.) Above them, Damon and Rebekah are taken out by some of Vaughn's nifty weapons. Stefan sends Elena to the tomb so that he can help his bro.
Unfortunately, Elena arrives after Vaughn, who has stabbed Bonnie. Even more unfortunate? That's not Elena--it's Katherine! (The dead giveaway: she calls Jeremy a brat.) She takes a huge bite out of Jeremy and feeds him to Silas, who returns the favor by breaking his neck. (Way to rise and shine, pal.)
While Katherine and Vaughn escape, Bonnie looks on in horror as Jeremy lies dead beside her. Tears!
Back in Mystic Falls, Caroline is saying goodbye to her own boyfriend, again. Klaus, who is all mushy inside when it comes to Caroline, has agreed to spare Tyler...sort of. He's really just giving the werewolf a "headstart" before he launches a deadly pursuit.
This time, Caroline and Tyler's farewell seems a little more final (though not as final as Jeremy's!). At her insistence, he promises to "live a happy life" without her. More tears!
With Tyler's departure, that means we lost two of the best washboard abs on the show. Matt is really going to have to perform double duty and find really creative ways to take off his shirt.
But is Jeremy really dead, or just Vampire Diaries-style "dead? The previews for next week don't look good for the young hunter.
So we have to wait at least a week to learn his true fate, along with Katherine's reason for wanting the cure. Does she really want to be mortal, or is she going to leverage it in another wicked scheme?
Thanks, Vampire Diaries, for the worst Valentine's Day ever.
