Move over Elsa. There's a new Disney princess in town.Princess Elena of Avalor, a "confident and compassionate teenager," will make her debut as the company's first Latina princess on an episode of Sofia the First on Disney Junior next year, the company announced Thursday, according to ABC News.
"Our creative team has delivered a universal story with themes that authentically reflect the hopes and dreams of our diverse audience," Nancy Kanter, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Disney Junior Worldwide said in a statement.
"What excites us most is the chance to use distinctive animation and visual design to tell wonderful stories influenced by culture and traditions that are familiar to the worldwide population of Hispanic and Latino families and reflect the interests and aspirations of all children as told through a classic fairy tale."
The princess, who lives in "an enchanted fairy tale kingdom inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore," will also have her own spin-off series, "Elena of Avalor" after her appearance on the show.Dominican actress Aimee Carrero of ABC Family's Young & Hungry, will voice Elena.
