Tasmanian Artist Gives Glammed-Up Bratz Dolls One Serious Make Under

Mattel BratzThe Bratz dolls are going back to the basics.

A Tasmanian artist is transforming the dolls, stripping down their heavily-made up faces, big hair and cropped tops so much so that they're hardly recognizable.

"These dolls have been rescued and rehabilitated from op-shops and tip shops around Tasmania," the artist wrote on the blog Tree Change Dolls. "These lil fashion dolls have opted for a "tree change", swapping high-maintenance glitz 'n' glamour for down-to-earth style. I hand repaint the dolls faces, mold new shoes, and my Mum sews and knits their clothing."

The artist not only posted pics of the dolls swinging on tires and playing outside in overalls, knit dresses and floral frocks, but he also put up split shots of the dolls before and after their make-unders.

In one snap, Cloe rocks over-lined pink lips (similar to Kylie Jenner's), one serious cat eye and snatched eyebrows. In the split "after" shot, Cloe is barefaced with a tinted lip, a completely different eye shape and eyebrows that appear to only get plucked every now and then.

Considering the dolls have been criticized for being a "hyper-sexualized portrayal of young girls" in the past, the artist's take on the Bratz certainly is interesting.
