*BANG BANG BANG BANG*
Smoke radiates from the barrel
Silence echoes throughout the streets,
His body shakes as his eyes roll to the back of his head.
His body hits the cold ground, they just pronounced him dead.
You can hear his mother's cries from across the street,
She is now on her knees begging, something like a plea.
Asking God,"Oh why did it have to be me?!"
Another child shot, another child gone.
What threat are they if they have no gun?
His tennis shoes squeak against the water on the pavement
Black hood on his head as the rain begins to fall
He pops another skittle in his mouth takes a sip of his Arizona
He committed no crime, never served any time
But they shot him dead, he dropped like a dime
Another child shot, another child gone.
What threat are they if they have no gun?
But I can't breathe
And my hands are up so don't shoot
Sometimes I question where I come from, channel my roots
I could never imagine what it's like beneath the gun
But I assure you it would be no fun
No indictment
No justice
No discussions
No punishments
Oakland is raising me
But I have a fear the bullet will soon graze me
Because Another child was shot, another child is gone.
What threat were they if they had no gun?
My arms are raised and head tilted toward the sky, I don't want to know what it feels like never saying goodbye.
Turning on the tv I hear the media's story,
Walking through the streets I see the people's fury.
They teach us to walk, hoping we learn to run faster than a bullet.
They teach us how to talk in hopes we fight for the justice we deserve.
They teach us to educate in hopes one day we will enlighten.
But is it enough?
Is it worth the price of our lives?
A mother's nightmare,
A father's scare,
No parent wants to bury their child.
Every parent has a fear of that gun,
The man behind the uniform,
The loss of their only son.
Sorry if my color offends you
Sorry if my clothes scare you
But Oakland is raising me
And I fear the bullet will soon graze me
*BANG BANG BANG BANG*
