Young woman with cucumber slice on eyeVitamin A: It's one of those ingredients that we can say, with absolute certainty, that skin loves. How many times have we bought a skin product just because it carries that essential skin booster in it? How many times have we put cucumbers on our eyes because of all the beneficial nutrients within, including vitamin A?

But here's something you may not know. Vitamin A can be a skin savior. But it's also, essentially, the vampire of the skin care world. It has a vulnerability.

"Sunlight renders it inactive," says Celeste Hilling, a skin-care coach as well as the CEO and product formulator for the Skin Authority beauty line. "As soon as sunlight hits it. If you want to use a vitamin A product, use it only at night."
