Well, at least Usher gave it a try.
The "Good Kisser" crooner took some time away from his tour to read a book called If Kids Ran the World by Leo and Diane Dillon to an auditorium full of children, who seemed really anxious for him to get through it.
Still, aside from some fidgeting and dozing off, the kids were well-behaved for the most part, even giving Usher a round of applause when he finished the book.
Usher's live reading went down Thursday at Scholastic's offices in New York as a part of the book company's "Open a World of Possible" campaign.
Before he started reading the book, the singer told the children, "I read to escape the reality that I have in my day-to-day life," adding that his mom and other relatives read to him as well as a child.
Usher also reads to his own sons - who are five and six - as much as he can, saying, "They're now at the age where they want to participate. It could be any of the library of books that we have in the house, but now it's more about engaging them instead of just reading it to them. But sometimes they use that as an excuse to stay awake."
To amp up the entertainment for the presentation, Usher answered questions from the kids in the audience after he finished the reading, and sang "Without You" to them as well.
