The Mount St. Joseph freshman suffers from a rare brain cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Since she has only been given months to live, the game against Hiram College was moved up two weeks so she would be healthy enough to play. Lauren scored 17 seconds into the game, telling NBC News, "I was jumping up and down and dancing on my toes because I was just so filled with joy."
Lauren's story has captured the attention of many news outlets and pro athletes, like LeBron James, who wrote on Instagram: "You are simply and truly "AMAZING" Lauren Hill!!! Thank you for inspiring me and I'll try my best to match you! Congrats on your game. Also be looking out for a package from I to You! You're Awesome!!!"
Yesterday, on the Lauren's Fight for Cure Facebook page, her family gave an update on the Ellen DeGeneres show, writing: "Just heard back from the producers, The Ellen Show is a NO GO.... Guess Lauren will just be dancing with her friends."
They added, "Lauren says... We can't hate on ELLEN it's the producers call. She probably didn't even know about it."
We really hope Ellen sees the hashtag and has this amazing woman on her show!
A girl with cancer can't get on Ellen, but a guy who got famous for nothing can? #alexfromtarget #GetLaurenOnEllen pic.twitter.com/pxruv1s2yy
