UN Women's If you're loving Emma Watson's fight for feminism, thank her parents.

The Harry Potter alum opened up to Elle UK about why she became an activist for women, telling the mag in its "Feminism Issue" her parents taught her to stand up for what she believed in at an early age. "I'm lucky I was raised to believe that my opinion at the dinner table was valuable," she said. "My mum and I spoke as loudly as my brothers."

Emma doesn't believe feminism fits in a box, though. "Feminism is not here to dictate to you. It's not prescriptive, it's not dogmatic," she continued. "All we are here to do is give you a choice. If you want to run for President, you can. If you don't, that's wonderful, too."

The 24-year-old actress decided to join the fight for feminism not only because of her upbringing, but also because of her celebrity status. "Fame is not something I have always felt comfortable with; I have really grappled with it emotionally," she continued. "And, in a funny way, doing this is my way of making sense of the fame, of using it. I have found a way to channel it towards something else, which makes it so much more manageable for me. And this is something I really believe in."

Emma made headlines when she presented her first speech at the UN Summit in September as a Women Goodwill Ambassador for the organization, focusing on gender equality during the launch of the #HeforShe campaign.
