In honor of Ada Lovelace Day (which is today, October 13), we are highlighting eight of the fiercest females in technology. But first, who was Ada Lovelace? She is known as the world's first computer programmer (yes, a woman! #YouGoGirl), born in 1815. Her mother, a mathematician and genius herself, wanted her to share her love for early-STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), and progressively had Ada study these subjects.

Ada become a fierce woman in her own right, famously publishing, "Sketch of the Analytical Engine, with Notes from the Translator," in which she publish some of the earliest work on computer programs.

Remember the movie with Benedict Cumberbatch, The Imitation Game, about Alan Turning? If you haven't seen it - watch it! The real Alan Turning (who was an uber-genius) actually used Ada's notes as some of his most important references and research for his work on the first modern computers. Could Ada have been any more fierce?!

Ada unfortunately died of cancer at the age of 36, but that didn't stop her legacy from living on. Ada Lovelace Day recognizes the achievements of women in STEM, so we've put together a list of eight of the fiercest females in tech.

Selena Gomez is trying to close the doors on her past relationship with Justin Bieber. She's talking about him one last time, though, and we give her mad props for her kind words.

In a revealing new interview with Refinery 29, the 23-year-old pop star addresses a laundry list of issues she has faced in the past year, including aggressive body-shamers and chemotherapy treatments for a battle with the chronic illness lupus. But she REALLY spilled about the Biebs.

"I think people really wanted to see me fail," she said. "I'd sit down in an interview and get the most harshly asked questions. Of course I got my heart broken. Of course I was pissed about it. There, everybody has it. I was so disappointed, because I never wanted my career to be a tabloid story."

When asked if she has any final words on the whole Bieber saga, Sel simply responded, "Ha, I wish," laughing and shaking her head. "At this point, there is no anger. There's closure in a very good, healthy way," she continued.

"We've seen each other. I'm always encouraging and I am proud of his journey. I think people are making it out to be something that is more tragic than it really was. We grew up together. We both made mistakes. That's it."

Just because Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora have collaborated on music in the past, doesn't mean they'll have the same point of view about future collaborations.

According to Billboard.com, Rita recently told The Sun she is interested in getting together a few pop stars for a remake of Labelle's 1975 "Lady Marmalade," a la Lil' Kim, Christina Aguilera, Pink, and Maya's 2001 remake.

"I'm trying to round up the troops," Rita said. "I think it would be me, Miley Cyrus, Charli XCX-she'd be fun-and Iggy." While that might have seemed like a good idea to some, the Twitterverse completely roasted her for saying it.

So far, Miley and Charli haven't commented on Rita's dream collaboration, and Rita hasn't said anything more after Iggy's comments. For now, it looks like the duo will just be sticking to more performances of "Black Widow" (which isn't a bad thing).

In case you missed Thursday night's season 7 premiere of the The Vampire Diaries (or need someone to make sense of everything), we've got you covered!

Last time we left off, season 6 ended with Damon decapitating Kai (aka the evil character that we love to hate), Liv sacrificing her life for Tyler, Stefan pouring his heart out of Caroline (#bfgoals), Tyler leaving Mystic Falls, and Elena entering a coma for the next few decades. Oh, and Mama Salvatore resurrected her vampire companions (aka the Heretics) from way back in the day. The intense episode concluded with Damon standing on the ledge of Mystic Falls' clocktower, overlooking all the chaos around him. Talk about a major cliffhanger.

Whew, that was a lot to catch up on! Now for the juicy deets from TVD's most recent episode.

The episode begins three years in the future, showing a wounded Stefan not in Mystic Falls, but in Brooklyn. Say whaaaat?
And it get's weirder. Stefan runs over to a casket, opens it, and revives Damon (who has apparently been sleeping for the past few years.

The episode then goes back to the present day, following Elena's departure from her friends. As instructed by Elena, Caroline has been writing in a diary; meanwhile Bonnie, Alaric, and Damon are in Amsterdam drinking away their sorrows. Alaric is still distraught over the death of Jo, and Damon is in misery ever since Bonnie lived and therefore put Elena in a coma until she dies.
Coincidentally, one of the Heretics has also been keeping a diary of her own. I guess we should have seen this coming, since the show IS called The Vampire Diaries. After being asleep for years, the Heretics have a hard time assimilating with the 21st century. Needless to say, they cause a bit of havoc in town, attacking innocent citizens.

And lets not forget that steamy makeout scene between Caroline and Stefan. We knew Caroline couldn't stay away from Stefan for too long (have you seen him?)!

On a less positive side, the Heretics set fire to a ceremony for graduating cops. Luckily, Matt made it out alive and is now a certified deputy. Oh, and Lily was NOT happy with their behavior.
Eventually, our favorite resident vampires agree to make a truce with Lily and the Heretics. To protect the innocent civilians, all the townspeople are evacuated from Mystic Falls, which explains that final scene from last season's finale.

The episode ends with the time jump from the beginning of the episode except with a little more details on WTF is going on. Apparently Stefan woke up Damon because an unidentified female character is out to get Stefan, and he clearly can't handle it. Big bro to the rescue!

Make sure you tune into to this Thursday's episode of TVD; this season is going to be insane!!

Um, excuse us?!

If T.I. doesn't want to support Hillary Clinton because he doesn't agree with her policies, that's totally his prerogative. During a radio appearance with DJ Whoo Kid on Sirius XM, T.I. said he wasn't going to support Hillary, which would have been fine if politics had anything to do with it (literally, anything!), but the reason he said he can't support her is...well, extremely disappointing to put it lightly.

"Not to be sexist but," he began. And you already know where this is going, because anytime someone begins a sentence with "not to be :::fill in the blank:::" it's DEFINITELY going to be that.

"I can't vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman. Just because, every other position that exists, I think a woman could do well," he explained. Oh, thanks for that. So just to be clear, you're cool with us being anything except the most important office in the land? Because then no matter how important or powerful we get, there is always a male President to keep us in check?

"But, the president? It's kinda like, I just know that women make rash decisions emotionally - they make very permanent, like, cemented decisions - and then later, it's kind of like it didn't happen, or they didn't mean for it to happen," he elaborated (and remember that line in a second, you'll see why).

"And I sure would hate to just set off a nuke. [Other leaders] will not be able to negotiate the right kinds of foreign policy; the world ain't ready yet. I think you might be able to the Loch Ness Monster elected before you could [get a woman]," he concluded.

Ok, now remember that whole 'making rash decisions emotionally' and then trying to make it like it didn't happen or you didn't mean for it to happen thing? After his comments set off the digital equivalent of a nuclear explosion on Twitter, T.I. did EXACTLY that, writing:

It was Saturday, October 10, around 6 p.m., and if you were a passerby, you would have thought the insanely long line of girls outside of Santo's Party House were getting ready to turn up. You wouldn't have been wrong though, because we definitely did get turnt - Her Campus style. This was Her Campus' Annual College Fashion Week (CFW): NYC, where fashionistas, writers, aspiring media mavens, and most importantly, powerful females from Her Campus chapters, get together for the most amazing GNO. As a member of Her Campus Adelphi, I was looking forward to the night since last year's CFW.
Her Campus is the No. 1 online global community for college women. There are over 290+ chapters on campuses worldwide run by a team of writers, whose articles range from current news and lifestyle to campus cuties and celebrities.

New York City, Boston, Washington D.C. and Atlanta are the lucky ones when Her Campus College Fashion Week comes to town. Not only did they bring us fashion inspo, but also some of their best beauty sponsors! Eyebrow game was too strong thanks to the European Wax Center's Browfection Bar, and nails were looking on point at the Jamberry DIY Nail Art Bar. Of course, we can't forget the free swag filled with goodies from Milani, European Wax Center, Simon, Skinny Pop, Luna, StyleWatch, Bumble and bumble., Jamberry, Glamsquad and more!
Once it was showtime, the opening acts took center stage. Columbia University's male a cappella group SHARP serenaded us in our seats *faints* and upcoming R&B songstress Teenear got us pumped with her amazing vocals and dance moves. Talk about awesome pre-show entertainment!

Finally, what we had all been waiting for: The models came out and strutted the runway. Her Campus is all about empowering girls to embrace who they are and have confidence as they run the world. The girls they chose as models were actually real college students of all ethnicities, heights, and sizes. The models, including my gals, Shani (Fellow Cambio Campus Ambassador), Cynthia and Sam (Her Campus Adelphi members) OWNED the catwalk in this season's hottest trends from Forever21 and SOREL.
The looks ranged from chic and comfy class wear to hot and hip party looks. The best part was that not only could I see myself wearing the pieces being modeled, but I could afford them without hurting my wallet. What more could you ask for in a fashion show? Amy Schumer hosted Saturday Night Live this past weekend and as many comedians have done, she took a few jabs at the Kardashians. The famous fam is pretty used to it, but one joke about Khloe Kardashian didn't sit well with the reality star.

"A whole family of women who take the faces they were born with as a light suggestion," Amy said during her monologue. "We used to have Khloe. Khloe was ours, right? Khloe, she lost half her body weight. She lost a Kendall, and we have nothing."

The next morning, Khloe took to Twitter to let the world know that she was NOT there for the jokes about her weight:

Wendy Williams watch out, we're pretty sure Taylor Swift's kick-ass girl squad is after you! The talk show host opened up a can of uh-oh when she called Tay Tay "mean" on Tuesday's episode.

Wendy believes Tay is not just "mean," but that she's the "queen of the mean." The talk-show host expressed that unpopular opinion and more on her Monday show.

The talk show host began by noting that, "Beyonce and Kim Kardashian have both lost their crowns" to T-Swiz, who has now "officially become the most popular person on Instagram." And while Kimmy and Bey tend to post "sexualized" pictures, often with cleavage, Wendy pointed out, "All Taylor does is expose pictures of her cats."

But right when it seemed like the so-blunt host was going to further praise Taylor for not having to expose herself just to gain followers, she did an about-face and began to attack the singer for supposedly being secretly "mean."

"I think she's probably meaner than Beyonce and Kim put together." She continued, "In my mind, Taylor Swift is the queen of the mean," adding that "she's sneaky and smart about doing it."

She went on, "She's got her girl army hypnotized to think that she's the bees knees." She said that Taylor is tricking everyone by posting pictures of herself baking and cooking with her girlfriends.

"We've never seen Kim and Beyonce bake and cook," said the host before alleging Tay's "trying to trick us into making us think she's a good woman 'cause she bakes and cooks."

We can guess who won't be in Taylor's squad anytime soon...

Generally, when we hear stories about shark attacks, it's because someone tragically lost their life. In this case, we're hearing about it because getting attacked by a shark SAVED this guy's life.

Yes, you read that right. Sounds crazy right?

So, how did a shark attack turn out to be a good thing? Eugene Finney tells CBS that while he was vacationing with his girlfriend and his two kids in Huntington Beach, California, he got a scary surprise. "Something struck me from behind. I'd never been hit like that before," he told them. "It was pretty jarring. It kind of gave me an instant whiplash."

He was a little bloody, but felt OK until later that evening, when he started having chest pains. "The pain was caused by interior bruising of the thoracic cavity due to blunt force trauma," he says, after receiving the diagnosis in the emergency room. But that wasn't all, "They had discovered a growth, or a tumor, on my right kidney about the size of a walnut."

Turns out, Eugene had cancer, and had it not been for that early diagnosis, his story could have had a very different ending. Fortunately, doctors were able to do a minimally-invasive surgery and remove the tumor.

Victoria's Secret finally announced the performers for their 2015 fashion show event. While Taylor Swift is not returning for a third performance in a row (sorry, Swifties!), the store peeps snagged some major names to headline the event.

Get ready to camp out in front of the TV on December 8, because the musical guests are none other than Rihanna, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd. Holler!

Sel just dropped her newest album, Revival, on October 9, while The Weeknd had arguably the song of the summer. Ri-Ri's new album, Anti, should be hitting the airwaves any day now, though so far she's only released three songs,"BBHMM", "FourFiveSeconds" and "American Oxygen".

This will be the first time Selena and The Weeknd have hit the sexy stage with the angels, but not for Rihanna. She performed at the fashions how back in 2012, too.

UPDATE 11:00 pm: Sources tell TMZ that Lamar is alive, but is breathing with the help of a machine. He remains in a coma and in addition to problems he's experiencing with his kidneys and lungs, his heart is reportedly failing. Khloe Kardashian rushed to Las Vegas to be with him and is currently by his side.

This is absolutely heartbreaking.

Lamar Odom has been hospitalized after being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel, according to TMZ. The site reports that the 35-year-old had been partying at Dennis Hof's Love Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada since Saturday and was discovered unconscious in his VIP room on Tuesday afternoon. He reportedly had a "mucus-type liquid coming out of his nose and mouth." A source tells the site that Lamar was taking an herbal substitute for Viagra.

The 35-year-old former NBA star was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was intubated before being transfered to Las Vegas for further treatment. The site reports that Lamar is "fighting for his life" and cites a source who told them "It's not good."

Concerned fans have taken to Twitter to share their well-wishes for Lamar.

The rumors are true: Someone DID buy Google.com for $12 (via Google Domains, no less!), but there's more to the story. Sanmay Ved, the guy who bought it was actually a former Google employee - and not a disgruntled one.

While it could have been the deal of the century and he probably could have sold it back to Google for an insane amount of money, the guy wasn't interested in doing that. In fact, he alerted Google security to let them know about the vulnerability and they must have been SO happy that he was the one who discovered and bought it. Can you even imagine the possibilities?

As if this guy's brilliance and his 'momma would be proud' conscience isn't cool enough, what he did next is seriously next-level awesome. In a blog post on LinkedIn, Sanmay explains that Google Security contacted him to offer him a reward. Rather than accepting the money, Sanmay requested that the tech giant donate the reward money to the Art of Living India Foundation instead.

Can this get any more amazing? Yes, it can, actually. Because Sanmay is donating the reward to charity, Google chose to DOUBLE it.

Did anyone else just get super excited for 2016?!

The Unicode Consortium made our month when they released a new list of 67 emojis that have been accepted as candidates for possible inclusion in the official Unicode language...and they're everything we wanted and more.

Considering we would use the majority of the emoticons on the list every day, it's safe to the say the Unicode Technical Committee is going to have a tough time narrowing them down before they make their final decision next June. As for which new emojis are on the list, there are several new hand gestures like a handshake, call me and crossed fingers, and seven new faces including a face with a cowboy hat, a sneezing face and a drooling face.
And that's just the beginning. There's a man in a tuxedo, a selfie hand (!), a pregnant woman, fist bumps, a black heart, a shark, an avocado, bacon, a person doing a cartwheel, a fencer and clinking glasses among many others (get the full list here).

Still out of all the stellar emoticons on this list, there are seven that totally stole our hearts: The Face Palm, Shrug, Fingers Crossed, Lying Face, Drooling Face and Rolling on the Floor Laughing and Selfie emoticons.
Why? For starters, the Face Palm can be used as a reaction for just about anything (i.e. if an ex texts you or you embarrass yourself in front of your crush), The Drooling Face is perfect for a text accompanied by a foodie snap, or when you're so tired you can't even think and your teacher called on you in class anyway.

Crossing our fingers (The Fingers Crossed emoticon - would be so useful here) that at least these seven and several more make the final cut.

This high school football team may be tough on the field, but it's clear they have a soft side (and we love it).

The Denver, Colorado Manual High School football first met a 3-year-old girl with heart complications while participating in a community project recently, and according to KTLA, she had a major impact on them. The team worked hard to turn Avelynn's barren home backyard into a beautiful lawn at the time, and they didn't stop there.

The tiny tyke, who was not expected to live past six weeks when she was born, and has had several open-heart surgeries, touched their hearts so much that they wanted to do more. "When we saw that little girl walk out onto her new lawn it touched my heart so much," senior running back Losseny Kone told KTLA. "I wanted to cry."
So, they decided to invite her to their homecoming game, and surprise Avelynn by crowning her homecoming queen. "There is something special about high school and a high school football game on a Friday night and meeting little Avi we wanted to make sure we could share that experience with her," defensive coordinator Benjamin Butler said.

"Her coming out here today is what really is going to drive us and our passion is what we need as a team and a school to see this girl walk out and be crowned queen. Something she probably won't experience ever so it really means a lot to us," senior running back Losseny Kone said.
Little Avelynn, who wore a frilly dress for the occasion, was all smiles as the crown was placed on her head (she even waved a wand she brought with her). "Our coach always has a saying: choose life," another player said. "That little girl chose life. She chose to move on." This team is giving us so many feels.

We can't think of a better way to celebrate homecoming or a more deserving homecoming queen. Such a sweet gesture.

Is One Direction's new single "Perfect" about Taylor Swift? While we're all eagerly waiting to hear it, there's already some speculation swirling that the song's lyrics, penned by Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, are totally about Taylor. Honestly, we're not so sure.

The Sun (via The Mirror) is reporting that, according to insiders, one lyric says Harry (or some person) was just "someone to write break-up songs about."

Oh, and the tune also reportedly sounds like Tay's "Style," which happens to be about Harry. So could "Perfect" be a revenge song?

A source tells The Sun: "Harry would never get too specific about Taylor in a song, but the lyrics are definitely going to get fans speculating." The insider type added, "He doesn't want to dish the dirt but a relationship as intense as theirs has provided lots of inspiration."

Intense? Really. Okayyy then.

The lyrics reportedly include: "If you like when I'm driving with the windows down / If you like going places we can't even pronounce / If you like to do whatever you've been dreaming about / Baby you're perfect."

Khloe Kardashian has been through a lot of ups and downs with Lamar Odom - both as husband and wife and as extremely friendly exes who genuinely care about each other.

On a recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Khloe defended her continued friendship with her ex-husband when Kim Kardashian expressed that she wasn't thrilled that they were still talking. At the very least, Khloe wanted to check on him and make sure he was all right.

As it turned out, Khloe's intuition proved to be correct. She was right to fear for his safety as news just broke that the former NBA star was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel and reports are speculating that things aren't looking good.

When we first heard the news, we couldn't help but worry for Khloe, who clearly still cares about Lamar very much and is undoubtedly crushed. A source tells E! News that, as expected, Khloe is "completely inconsolable and heartbroken," and that she is "not good." We can't even imagine the pain she's in right now.

With her mom and Kim by her side, Khloe will be flying to Las Vegas later this evening to be with him in the hospital. Our thoughts are with Khloe and her family during this difficult time and most importantly, our thoughts are with Lamar, wishing him a full recovery.

There's no doubt that Jennifer Lawrence is totally crushing it in the career department. Not only is our girl an Oscar winner and a bonafide action star (Katniss Everdeen, we heart you!), she's also the celeb that tops the list of highest paid actresses in Hollywood. You might think someone like that would never have to worry about money, but that's not stopping J. Law for standing up for what's right. Jennifer just took a stand for gender pay equality, and this lady deserves a slow clap.

J. Law published her thoughts on this matter in Lena Dunham's new newsletter Lenny, as the issue connects to Jennifer's own personal experience in the entertainment industry. According to the Institute for Women's Policy Research, the gender wage gap is still alive and well, with women making roughly 78 cents to every man's dollar. That statistic extends to Hollywood.

Though J. Law is the world's highest paid actress, she was paid considerably less than the male leads on her 2013 film American Hustle, something that was only revealed when e-mails at Sony were hacked and leaked to the public. J. Law talks about finding out about her co-stars much higher salaries in her new essay, and she is not happy with that status quo:

When the Sony hack happened, I didn't get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself. I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early. Jeremy Renner, Christian Bale, and Bradley Cooper all fought and succeeded in negotiating powerful deals for themselves. If anything, I'm sure they were commended for being fierce and tactical, while I was busy worrying about coming across as a brat and not getting my fair share.

It's a tough road for women: while we want our equal share, society constantly tells us that being too "pushy" will ultimately cost us our likability. J. Law may be a beloved celebrity, but as she points out here, fighting for a higher salary isn't something she was used to. Now it seems that the Hunger Games star has learned her lesson: she recently demanded a $20 million dollar salary to star in Passengers alongside Chris Pratt. Given her star power, talent, and proven ability to bring in big box office numbers, I say she's earned it. Jennifer isn't the only celebrity to demand her worth. Following Jennifer's op-ed piece, Sienna Miller admitted to E! that she walked away from a play in which she was offered only half of what her male co-star was making, despite being interested in it creatively. Actresses, like Sienna and J. Law, need to continue to demand that they are paid what the actors they share the screen with: if they demand equality, Hollywood will have no choice but to follow suit. It's about damn time.

Everyone knows that you need to be smart AF to win the Nobel Prize, and this year's Nobel Laureates are no exception.

Among the 2015 Nobel Prize winners were two women: Svetlana Alexievich and Tu Youyou. China-based Tu won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her work in developing an anti-malaria medicine. Svetlana, a Belarusian investigative journalist and non-fiction writer, won the Nobel Prize in Literature for her work documenting the stories of those who lived in the former Soviet Union.

While these women have made truly outstanding achievements, it's interesting to note that there were eight male winners, compared to just two women.

While we love to hear that women are winning the Nobel Prize, there's still a major gender gap with Nobel Laureates.

Fortune reports that since 1901, 825 men have won Nobel Prizes, compared to 49 women. Twenty-six other prizes went to organizations. If you do the math, that means that women win the Nobel Prize 5.6 percent of the time. That's a pretty tiny number. This percentage has grown over the past decade, but at an achingly slow clip.

Of these winners, women have been most likely to win the Nobel Prize in Literature or Peace, but we think it's high time that ladies start taking home prizes for the economics, physics, chemistry and medicine categories.

Kylie Jenner was livestreaming on her website and app the other day and getting some cool fan questions. One of them, however, was less of a question and more of a diss disguised as a question, but Ky handled it like a total pro.

"Why do you have more plastic in your body than a Barbie doll?" someone tweeted at her during the Q&A sesh. While it would have been very easy for Kylie to just pass over the question and move on to one of the hundreds of 'Why are you so amazing? Will you teach us your ways?' kind of questions, the 18-year-old chose to answer it and she literally wasn't even fazed by it. She's got nothing to hide, so she didn't feel the need to dodge the question.

"Well, I haven't done anything except my lips but nobody seems to believe that, so...I don't really care," she says, reiterating what she's told us so many times. "But, I did just turn 18, so it kind of surprises me when people think I've undergone so many surgeries, when my mom wasn't even going to let me get my lips done. So, there's no way in hell she was going to let me get my boobs done, or my butt, or anything else. So, whatever."

Kylie has admitted to getting lip fillers, she revealed the secret behind her crazy cleavage (the Victoria's Secret Bombshell bra) and she posted a pic of herself in Spanx, along with a link to the ones she wears, when people said she was wearing butt pads. What more does she need to do to convince people that she hasn't gone under the knife?

Khloe Kardashian filed for divorce from Lamar Odom in December 2013. The final papers were not signed by both parties until July of this year - although, apparently those signatures alone don't make it a done deal.

Due to a reported backlog in the family court system, Khloe and Lamar's divorce won't be finalized for at least another two months, which means that Khloe is still legally his wife and can make medical decisions for him. According to TMZ, she has already made a few as Lamar remains in a coma in a Nevada hospital following his hospitalization on Tuesday night. Heartbroken and "inconsolable," Khloe arrived shortly after Lamar was admitted and has remained by his side ever since.

A source tells People that Khloe arranged for Lamar's ex-girlfriend, Liza Morales, and their two children to be flown from their residence in New York to Las Vegas to be with Lamar as he fights for his life. Lamar and Liza had a third child, who died in 2006 from SIDS when he was only 6 months old.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians cameras were rumored to be filming Khloe in Los Angeles just before Khloe rushed to Nevada to be at Lamar's bedside, but GossipCop confirms that they are not filming at the hospital. The famous fam has reportedly banned any photography from anywhere near Lamar.
