Just being freshly being back from a vacation, it's only appropriate that I write about traveling. I know you're dying to know where I went. I was recently away for a destination wedding in Nova Scotia - that's Canada, not a separate country like some think. Yes, I was one of
those people for a while.
Anyway, traveling is definitely a hobby of mine, and this past year I had the opportunity to travel to some awesome places, which inspires me to want to travel the world even more! There is so much beauty out there, so many souls to be met that I want to experience it all. It was hard to narrow it down, but I compiled a list of a few of my favorite travel destinations as well as places that are on my travel bucket list.
1. San Diego, Calif.
I can't even begin to tell you for how long I've wanted to go to California. In high school, I was so hung up on traveling across the country to visit and experience this state, I would constantly nag my mom to book us a trip. Maybe my reasoning was to just spend my time stalking out celebrities. Hey, I would be very content with that! I even wanted to celebrate my Sweet 16 by going on vacation to California, instead of a party. That unfortunately didn't happen, but I was lucky enough to finally visit California my sophomore year of college for a journalism convention.
The convention was held in San Diego, and the minute I stepped off the plane, I knew I was in love. The drive along the sunny coast to our hotel was perfection. The colorful houses right on the beach with palm trees everywhere made me feel like I was on a Caribbean island. The calmness of people taking a stroll along the beach or walking their dogs under the palm trees made me want to find a house for a sale and make an offer (yes, with a college students' bank account, good one Fabiana). San Diego was everything I pictured California to be - minus the celebs - leave that to Los Angeles. The attitudes of the people coincided with the landscape. Don't worry, California; I'll be back soon!
2. The Atlantis, Bahamas
Speaking of Caribbean islands, it's only right that I write about my favorite one. The Bahamas is an island I've been to numerous times, and I don't get sick of it. Yes, there are so many islands out there, and some may ask, "Don't all those islands look the same after awhile?" I agree, but the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas will always have special place in my heart.
My family and I have been on vacation to The Atlantis since I was a young girl. I'm talking braids-with-beads-in-half-my head young. Then, instead of going to California for my Sweet 16, I got an even better surprise of going on a trip to The Atlantis with my parents and best friend. To this day, we still talk about the memories made on the birthday trip and the shenanigans my bestie and I got into. If you haven't yet, book your next Caribbean vacay at the Bahamas. Swimming with the dolphins, laying out on secluded beaches, terrifyingly tall slides leading to an enormous waterpark and gorgeous hotels - what more could you want?
The picture above is me clearly hitting my friend in the head while kayaking. Oops!
3. Portland, Me.
I know, this one you didn't see coming. Kind of random? I agree. However, Portland has to be one of the most beautiful, scenic places I've ever been to in the United States. Being at the very tip of the East Coast, Portland is considered a peninsula (surrounded by three bodies of water, didn't you pay attention to geography in middle school?), so almost everywhere you go, there will be beautiful deep blue bodies of water. Sailboats, lighthouses and quaint, adorable houses fill this quiet town in Maine. Hello, we cannot forget about the lobster! Lobster in Maine is so reputable because of the salty seawater that gives it flavor and how fresh they are. The lobster you're enjoying at dinner in Maine was caught earlier that day, guaranteed. Like my added sailboats courtesy of Snapchat in the picture?
4. Capri, Italy
Now getting into my travel bucket list, Capri, Italy has to be at the top. I am of Italian descent, so that's an obvious reason why I want to visit Italy. However, there are so many gorgeous regions, all different from one another, I just want to experience them all. I've been to Rome and Tuscany and while there, we didn't have enough time to pay a visit to Capri, so I promised myself I would have to come back someday soon to get my fix. Not only was my idol, Giuliana Rancic married on the island, Google Image this region in Italy and the picture will speak a thousand words. Capri is an island off the gulf of Naples, famed for its upscale living. Gorgeous beaches with crystal clear water, rugged landscape and high end shopping, need I say more?
5. Mykonos, Greece
Mykonos is another place I am so eager to visit; I nag my family all the time to look into a trip here. Not only from seeing Greece portrayed in movies or television, but hearing experiences from friends who have visited here, make me want to jump on a flight tomorrow. Mykonos is considered one of the most glamorous and popular Greek islands, home to many celebs travel destinations. A glamorous island filled with white stucco houses and breathtaking scenery, come on, that's right up my alley. I'll keep you posted for when I finally book a trip here!
This is just a taste of a few places I've traveled to and places I must see at some point in my life. Traveling is a way to meet all walks of life, experience new foods and take in all the nature has to offer to us. Hopefully I've inspired some of you to take some vacation time and book your next trip. Safe travels!
