Before the
Pretty Little Liars summer finale hits Tuesday and we finally find out who is 'A,' we're already getting a taste of what's to come in season 6B...at least, when it comes to the Liars' appearances.
Entertainment Weekly posted the first official shot of Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily after the five-year time jump we'll see when the next season premieres in early 2016, and we are dying over the snap. The next time we see the girls, they'll already be out of college and five years older.
In the photo, the liars look pretty conservative. Aria is rocking a blonde bob, Spencer is rocking bangs and a ponytail, Emily basically looks the same (she's in a t-shirt) and Hanna is sporting longer blonde hair, a cream blazer over a sheer dress and a ring on her finger. Fans kind of went crazy over that ring thinking it meant Hanna and Caleb got married (it looks like the ring is on her right finger and not
that finger, but anything is possible).
Showrunner Marlene King told
Entertainment Weekly the liars' wardrobe, hair and makeup reflects "where they are professionally in their lives," in season 6B. During the five years we won't see, Marlene said, "The girls lived a free life for 5 years. They have not been tortured or tormented by this anonymous cyber bully. They're taking yoga now, they're breathing. They have more time for extracurricular activities because they're not being chased by an anonymous stalker."
"We made that decision so they would have a year to finish school and firmly root themselves into their desired careers, so their wardrobe and hair and makeup and styles reflect where they are professionally in their lives," showrunner Marlene King said. Although their styles have changed, the Liars' personalities are just about the same, with Marlene adding they're "not different people," but just "more grown-up versions of themselves." Whew.
As for what they've been doing during those five years, King said, "The girls lived a free life for 5 years. They have not been tortured or tormented by this anonymous cyber bully. They're taking yoga now, they're breathing. They have more time for extracurricular activities because they're not being chased by an anonymous stalker."
"They still suffer from post-traumatic stress at times and we will hear as we go into the next season some stories about how what they've been through has still haunted them and affected the decisions that they make," she said, adding, "Something like that really does change you and it's probably helped them all make decisions that they might have not made had that experience not happened to them. Maybe they take greater risks and maybe they can handle pressure more easily than someone who hasn't been locked in a demented dollhouse."
Considering this
is Pretty Little Liars, we know the drama will not fully come to an end, even with the revelation of A's identity. Now that everyone will know who 'A' is going into season 6B, it will be interesting to see what twists and turns are ahead for the crew when it kicks off (in the meantime we'll biting our nails until Tuesday).
