Avril Lavigne was looking for the silver lining and she found it!
Back in December, after #GetWellSoonAvril and #PrayforAvril started trending on Twitter, it was reported that the singer was suffering
from an undisclosed health issue. In an exclusive interview with
People earlier this month, Avril finally revealed that she had been battling Lyme disease. "I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move," she told them. "I thought I was dying."
So, what good could have possibly come out of such a painful and excruciating struggle? ...It
forced her to rest.
"I haven't stopped working since I was 15," she said in a new interview with
Billboard. "Just to have this downtime, this time spent with my family, has been really good for me just to take a step back and look at my life, and really get to see who in my life is really there for me when I need them."
The disease, which took so much from her- leaving her bedridden for five months, also gave her time to reflect. "I've had a lot of time to just think, and I've never been so clear before, or as close to my family," she continues. "So there's been a lot of good that has come out of it. And moving forward, I'm really clear on what I want in life."
Avril is feeling "pretty good" these days and she's hoping that sharing her story will help educate people about the disease, saying she feels like she has a responsibility to raise awareness. "I need to talk about Lyme disease, because it's real, it's out there, it was a simple bug bite and it could happen to anybody," she told
Billboard. "People need to know about it, because it's not talked about that much and a lot of the information that's out there is inaccurate."
We feel so bad for Avril and what she went through, but we love the fact that she's opening up about her experience with the hope that it will help others.
