Even in death,
Joan Rivers is still making us laugh.
The 81-year-old legendary comedienne left hilarious instructions for how she wanted her funeral to be, laying out the details in her 2012 book,
I Hate Everyone...Starting With Me.
According to the
Hollywood Reporter, Joan addressed the paragraph to her daughter,
Melissa Rivers, writing, "When I die (and, yes, Melissa, that day will come; and, yes, Melissa, everything's in your name), I want my funeral to be a huge showbiz affair with lights, cameras, action....I want Craft services, I want paparazzi and I want publicists making a scene! I want it to be Hollywood all the way."
"I don't want some rabbi rambling on; I want
Meryl Streep crying, in five different accents," she continued. "I don't want a eulogy; I want
Bobby Vinton to pick up my head and sing 'Mr. Lonely.' I want to look gorgeous, better dead than I do alive. I want to be buried in a Valentino gown and I want Harry Winston to make me a toe tag. And I want a wind machine so that even in the casket my hair is blowing just like
Beyonce's."
After the funeral sketch, the E!
Fashion Police host wrote, "I love the death reel at the Oscars," referring to the Oscars In Memoriam section. Following Joan's passing, the excerpt started to trend on Facebook.
Joan touched the lives of so many, and that was reflected by the dozens of celebrities, and thousands of fans and friends who posted tributes to her on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram after her death. Take a look at several of them below.
Kelly Osbourne: I'm completely heartbroken by the loss of my beloved Joan. Not only was she my boss, she was and will always be my teacher, therapist, closest friend, inspiration and the only grandmother I ever knew. She was family and I will never forget her. Laughter will be difficult for a while but when I'm sad, lonely or upset all I will have to do is think of Joan and a smile will cross my face. Laughter is what she gave us and laughter is what she would want us to do in remembrance of her. Melissa and Cooper, my thoughts are with you and I love you both so much. Joan, thank you for taking me in and loving me as a daughter. I will miss you deeply and will always hear your voice in my head saying 'my darling get out there and be you!'
Giuliana Rancic: "It is almost impossible to describe how much I adored Joan and how much she has meant to me," the
E! News host said. "She was not only the funniest woman I have ever met but was incredibly loving, honest, and lived her life with no regrets. Working with her for the last 13 years has been one of the true joys of my life. She could put a smile on your face, instantly, no matter how hard your day was."
"My heart goes out to
Melissa and
Cooper who have lost something that can never be replaced," the
Fashion Police co-host continued. "Their bond was truly one-of-a-kind. They had the greatest mother and grandmother anyone could ever hope for."
"My life is so much fuller and happier because I got to share it with this beautiful person, a true genius," Rancic concluded. "I woke up today unable to grasp what the world will be like without her and at the same time feel so privileged to have called her my friend."
Katy Perry: What's the point of wearing all these dumb costumes if Joan's not here to rip them apart RIP Joan Rivers. You are a one of a one.
Kylie Jenner: "rest peacefully."
Naya Rivera: "A life well lived. My heart goes out to Joan's family, friends, and co workers. Thank you for all the laughs. Rest in peace funny, fearless lady."
