As far as how she felt when the DJ announced their break-up in June on Twitter, the "R.I.P." crooner told Glamour U.K., "Honestly, if Calvin hadn't done it, I wouldn't have done it. It took me five days to write three sentences. It was a massive...I don't know."
"We both work really hard," Rita, who covers the mag's September issue continued. "We're both all over the place."
Still, the 23-year-old singer hoped they would be able to work things out, adding, "I'd always denied it, always said, 'If you really want something, you'll do it!' When I go for something, I go in 100 percent. So it was a wake up call."
Although she's been reportedly dating Ricky Hilfiger since their split, it doesn't look like Rita has fully gotten over her break-up with Calvin just yet.
"I'm gonna tell you the truth: I'm not doing too great, but, I'm doing better than I thought," she admitted. "I adore him and he's such an amazing human being. It was more about the situation. It was inconvenient. It sucks. It wasn't about 'us.' It was about the world we live in."
Calvin confirmed rumors that they had broken up by tweeting, "To address speculation -- myself and Rita ended our relationship some time ago. She is a beautiful, talented woman & I wish her all the best."
A week later, Rita tweeted, "I don't usually address speculation but I've had an incredible time w Calvin,& i will treasure the memories. I've moved on from this topic so i hope people will respect that and do the same."
She had previously told the UK Mirror in May 2013 when they started dating, "I'm not a fan of long distance relationships. If you had a choice, you want that person with you. It makes me pretty sad. But you work with what you've got."
