Sources close to the actress say she's showing symptoms of schizophrenia and that her psychiatric hold will be extended as her parents step in to helpThere's finally some good news in the sad spiral of Amanda Bynes...it seems she may finally be getting the help she obviously needs.After multiple arrests, months of erratic behavior and starting a fire at a stranger's home this week, Amanda was committed to an LA hospital under a 5150 mandatory psychiatric hold.
The 5150 only lasts 72 hours, but TMZ reports medical professionals will seek a 2 week extension on her stay because she's showing signs of schizophrenia, a mental illness that causes the patient to have delusions and hallucinations.
Sources also say Amanda's parents will seek a conservatorship for their 27-year-old daughter because they believe she can't take care of herself and could be a threat to others.
This is exactly what happened when Britney Spears was hospitalized under a 5150 hold several years ago during her breakdown. Britney's father put her under a conservatorship in 2008 and Britney was able to completely turn her life around for the better after getting treatment.
Amanda's parents reportedly wanted to take control earlier, but her behavior didn't prove that she was a danger to society or herself. Since she set a fire in a random person's driveway Monday, the situation may have changed.
