2012 Grammys Red Carpet

Music's biggest night was in full swing last night as the 54th Annual Grammy red carpet filled with stars both young and old. The Band Perry, Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose, Thompson Square, Jay Sean, Zarah, Skrillex, Esperanza Spalding, Cut Copy, Wilco, Mumford and Sons and comedian Steven Martin all stopped by to chat with us on the carpet. Despite the somber mood, due to the passing of music legend Whitney Houston, the stars were still excited to be at the awards.

The Band Perry had been working their whole lives in music to get to the Grammys. They even said that they would sit in the rafters to be in the audience but luckily for them and us - they got good seats and did an amazing performance in honor of Country legend Glen Campbell. Wiz Khalifa hit the carpet with Amber Rose and they did admit that it was a little mayhem on the carpet with lots of big name celebrities. Thompson Square described the carpet as being very energetic and that it was cool to see all the genres of music being represented at the event. Jay Sean told us he kept seeing musicians whose records he owned and Wiz agreed that there were many people that he looked up to that he wasn't sure when he was going to freak out. He promised to tell us if he got freaked out at all. Esperanza Spalding (last Year's Grammy winner) still said it is intimidating going to the Grammys but also really inspiring.

Along with The Band Perry, was Thompson Square who couldn't believe that they were walking the carpet. Cut Copy also agreed that this event was their first time and a whole new experience. They said that the décor was wild with chandeliers hanging over the red carpet entrance. But it wasn't just newcomers who felt that the Grammy experience is unique. Wilco told us that the red carpet is bizarre and so far removed from their world while Mumford and Sons felt totally in their element.

Check out some photos from the night and click here to see the list of winners.

Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose are one good looking couple, but who knew they were also BOTH musical talents? Wiz told us that Amber is currently in the studio and has two songs out that he claims are amazing. Check out her music for yourself and decide if she is more than just a pretty face.

Wiz himself is also back in the studio working on his second album which he told us is entitled "ONIFC." We also heard rumors that he's working with heavy hitters like Pharrell and Chris Brown.

One things for sure, this couple is very hot and heavy. They didn't leave each other's side throughout the entire Grammy's carpet. Oh young love!

Grammy Blog #4: Capitol Records Jazz Session

GRAMMY Camp - Jazz Session students in the studio at Capitol Records.

The GRAMMY Camp - Jazz Session big band spent Saturday morning recording an album at Capitol Records, in the same studio where Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, and a slew of other musicians cut some of music's most famous records. Needless to say, the band was very excited to be there, despite having a 6:30 a.m. session.

"It's so amazing to get to play in the same place as Ella Fitzgerald, Sinatra, all those people," trumpet player Ryan Deweese said. "It's great to learn what it's like to play in such a great place."

The band recorded tracks in the famed Studio A for the 2012 GRAMMY Camp - Jazz Session album. The album also includes songs featuring the jazz combo and choir, who recorded their parts the day before. According to bass trombone player Chris Palowitch, the band only had time to record two or three takes of each track during the session.

"I've heard a few of [the tracks] already, and they sound great," Palowitch said. "Not even some of the bigger artists today get to record in such an awesome place. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

%Gallery-147050%

Studio A was recently updated, and the first artist to record in the renovated room was none other than the 2012 MusiCares Person of the Year Paul McCartney. Additionally, awards for several recordings by The Beatles line the wall in the building's entrance. The hallways are decorated with pictures of iconic artists from decades past, including Les Paul, Mary Ford, and Dean Martin.

Palowitch said "Lonely Street," a Sam Hart ballad, is his favorite tune to play.

"It's an awesome tune, even though I don't play that much on it," he said.

Cameron MacIntosh, a drummer, echoed the feelings expressed by the band.

"It's a huge honor to play where so many of my idols have recorded," he said, sitting in the drum isolation booth. "You know that drum solo in The Beatles' 'The End?' That was recorded right here!"

Julian Ring is a GRAMMY Camp music journalism student who was selected to cover GRAMMY Week 2012 as part of the GRAMMY Camp - Jazz Session media team. To find out more about GRAMMY Camp and to apply for this summer, go to GRAMMYintheschools.com. Deadline is March 31, 2012.

Britney went on a date with Justin, but she isn't quite sure what to make of it. As she recounts their night together to her friends, there seems to be more and more wrong with Justin. First of all he has no manners and couldn't even open the door for her. He forgot to make a reservation and picked a fight with the hostess at the restaurant. As for his table manners, he tore into his food and wolfed it down. But on the plus side Justin did bring Britney a present and tells her that if there is one thing he likes about her, it's her brains. Will Justin and Britney last?

Kristen Stewart On Her Snow White In 'Snow White And The Huntsman': "She Can Kick Ass"

$

Filed under:

Universal

If you were Kristen Stewart, you might be preoccupied thinking about the release of Snow White And The Huntsman this summer. Not only is it your first big movie role apart from the same role you've played in four installments of one of the most beloved (by most teen girls, anyway) film franchises in history, but you're playing a well-known fairytale character who is known to sing songs with woodland creatures and charm everyone she meets. And then there's the added pressure of another Hollywood actress giving the same role a try a few months before your version hits theaters. Yep, if you were Kristen Stewart, you might even feel like you have something to prove.

But you're not Kristen Stewart. Because Kristen Stewart is effing awesome and we're standing three feet away from her in her trailer, along with a handful of other outlets, back in October somewhere outside of London on the set of Snow White And The Huntsman listening to her talk about the amazing character she's created for the movie.

"It's strange playing a character that you actually could never truly embody," she said. "Her spirit affects people in such a way that -- you know, I mean luckily our script is written that way, but I can't have Snow White's effect on people. I can't actually be completely selfless because nobody is and it would be strange to claim that. You can only really play a character like that in a fairytale and play it with an awful load of integrity and not have it just be like a fake character in a movie with other people that do seem real. She's very fully-formed but very farfetched-from-the-reality-that-we-live-in type of person. Everyone always thinks I just want to play strong characters, but she also is strong in a very different way that you'd expect the leading person in an action-type adventure movie to be."

Well said, Kristen. Tell us more.

"Strength [of character], yeah, but also gusto," she said. "I mean, like she's strong. She can kick ass. It hurts very much to do so and so it's not like you're watching her go take down a kingdom. You're not watching going, 'Yeah! Kill him!' Really, it's more like you're watching someone having to do something that doesn't just go against your sensibilities or something that you agree with. It's not real. It's gutting. It's physically gutting, literally."

Being the lame Twilight nerd that I am, I couldn't help but point out to Kristen that this is the second movie in which she plays a character who gets led into the woods to get some bad news. The first instance, of course, was in New Moon when Edward (Robert Pattinson) takes Bella into the forest to dump her. And in the classic telling of Snow White, she is led out into the woods to be killed (although this movie might have a twist or two in store).

"Well, it's funny," she told us when asked which is harder to play, getting dumped in the forest like Bella or finding out you're going to die as Snow White does. "I think she [Snow White] genuinely lacks that innate fear of death that we all have. She's got a serious, fierce survival... not skills, but instincts. She isn't afraid of anything. What's harder is to have dreams and hopes that you lived with your whole life sort of be just shattered in front of you. Only that hope doesn't exist anymore and you've got so much in you and you can explain to people that it's so worth fighting for and blah, blah, blah. So, basically you see the degradation of the people that basically... it's like she's a voodoo doll. If they're in pain, she's in pain. And so when she gets out of those walls, it's actually like it's a blow to the stomach, with almost every step, every new discovery of how sh** things have gotten."

Universal

She continued, "I think, probably, it's totally impossible to compare the two because the leading out [into the woods] and being broken up with thing, especially in that context, was one of the hardest things I've ever had to play and I built that moment up in my head, not that I'm talking about Twilight now," she smiles, hoping to keep the conversation on Snow White. "You can't compare them. And I know that doesn't make sense, but I kind of can't compare."

But don't cry fellow nerds, she does offer up a comparison.

"Bella and Snow White are slightly... they both come to find that they're leaders," she said. "I mean, that's definitely a similarity. They're different. They're very, very, very different people. Also, I guess in a very sort of righteous way as well, it's all very like, everyone's telling them 'No.' And both of them, I guess, see the light. Both of them are sort of a little more intuitive and spiritually for whatever reason connected and their gut is always sort of dead right."

New 'Snow White' Set Details: Kristen Stewart Calls Punching Chris Hemsworth A "Confidence-Building Experience"

Chris Hemsworth talks with Joe Roth, Universal

When Kristen Stewart flew into Los Angeles from London last November, where she was filming Snow White and the Huntsman, to do a week of press leading up to the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part One, fans were buzzing about the mysterious hand brace she sported during numerous interviews. She later told Jay Leno the injury came from accidentally punching her SWATH costar, Chris Hemsworth, during filming an action sequence for the film. Now we can reveal that we were one of a handful of media outlets on set that day back in November and had a chance to interview Kristen and Chris after the stunt-gone-wrong went down.

"It's actually a very confidence-building experience," Kristen told us. "I always imagined the... I don't like punching anyone. So, you know when you dream and your hand just slides right down their face, it doesn't do that in real life. It really works. God, that really made me feel horrible, though. I mean, like instantly hot tears and I was like, 'Oops.'"

After filming an forest scene where Chris and Kristen are tied up and hanging from a tree by their ankles, the pair re-watched the punching scene, which was shot earlier in the day, on the monitors with director Rupert Sanders. Kristen then retold the story to one of the film's producers, Joe Roth (pictured above) when he arrived on set and Chris walked over to where we were standing where we asked him for his side of the story.

"We misjudged one another and I head-butted her fist with my nose, which didn't turn out too well for me," Chris said while pointing out the "swelling going on with my nose."

Aside from the punching incident, the pair revealed they actually got along really well and enjoyed working together on the film.

"She's great," Chris said. "You know, we both loved the script from the beginning. I think we both read it and had a huge amount of excitement coming into it."

He went on to compliment Kristen's meticulous attention to detail while filming scenes together.

"She leaves no stone unturned and is sort of prepped with the script," he said. "She's always asking questions and trying to find out what's the real truth within the scene, which is great -- it keeps you on your toes and the scenes are all the better for it."

In the movie, due out this summer, Chris plays the Huntsman, dispatched by the kingdom's evil queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) to kill Snow White. However, Snow White ends up being trained in the art of war, by the Huntsman, in hopes of being able to dethrone her. Kristen told us the role of the Huntsman evolved after Chris became attached.

"It really did change so much," she said. "And so when he came in it was like, 'Wow! This is f***ing interesting!' I mean, it was like they really elevated it. I mean, Chris is an amazing, nice guy and also like, f***ing great instincts and he can roll with everything on set. He's really relaxed, whereas I'm always like, 'Oh my God!' -- I use my anxiety to do this and he's always sort of like... he's a good energy for me. I really like working with him."

As for the face-punching scene, Kristen is definitely a fan of the final result, "It looks... it'll be in the movie."

Last night, Katy Perry unveiled a brand new song at the 2012 Grammys called 'Part of Me,' and now fans can sing along with her just-released lyric video.

While the pop track is just as infectious as Katy's other singles, it's hard not to think the singer is talking about her soon-to-be ex-husband Russell Brand. In the song, she sings about rising above and beyond a hurtful relationship:

"Now look at me, I'm sparkling / A firework, a dancing flame / You won't ever put me out again, I'm glowing / So you can keep the diamond ring / It don't mean nothing anyway."

'Part of Me' is the first single from her forthcoming album, 'Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection,' due out on March 27. Check out the lyric video for the song below, and grab your copy of the song on iTunes now.

A month after revealing that she would be taking a break from music, Selena Gomez has announced that she's breaking up with her band, The Scene.

Over the weekend, the 19-year-old singer used Instagram to post a photo of herself with her band and crew. In the description, she wrote: "I can't express enough how grateful I am for this group. They have been with me since day one and I can't believe it's actually over. I love you The Scene, marsh mellow girls, Ashley & Ashlee, Jivanta, Marco, Brian & Brian, mark, Jason, Javier, Timmy! Could NOT have done any of this without you. Currently bawling my eyes out. I'll miss you guys."

The caption caused confusion among her fans, so Selena added an explanation on Facebook. "Just to clear up my last instagram post, my band and I are going our separate ways for a while," she wrote. "This year is all about films and acting and I want my band to play music wherever with whoever. We will be back but, it will be a good while. I love them and I love you guys :)."

Selena first made mention of focusing on her acting career in early January. She will be starring in the upcoming movie 'Spring Breakers,' and recently signed on to voice the role of Mavis in Adam Sandler's animated project 'Hotel Transylvania.'

We caught up with celebrities on The Grammys red carpet at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday on their thoughts and remembrances of the legendary Whitney Houston. Her cause of death is currently unknown and is being investigated by authorities.

2011 Best New Artist winner Esperanza Spalding spoke to us about what stars had to say about Houston at Clive Davis' annual Grammy's party on Saturday.

"We're all thinking of Whitney." said Spalding. "Last night, a couple of people spoke at the Clive Davis party. Their take was we'll have time to mourn her, but tonight let's remember to celebrate her and what she meant to us and remember to acknowledge the people that are here because tomorrow isn't promised. So let's remember to say, you know, I love you, I appreciate what you do, today."

Singer-songwriter Jay Sean and rapper Rick Ross also talked to Cambio about the mood at the Grammy's and how they want Houston to be remembered.

"I think everyone's mood is slightly bittersweet," said Jay Sean. "It's a bit weird but I think eventually we all know the show must go on as they say and I think they've probably got something beautiful lined up for her."

%VIRTUAL-BCEmbed-1450519933001%

"We lost an icon, we lost a beautiful and maybe [the] most talented singer of our time," said Ross. "I just pray we all remember her for her great accomplishments."

Houston's cause of death probably won't be known for weeks.

Houston was found underwater and unconscious in her bathtub at the Beverly Hills Hilton on Saturday afternoon. Officials have also confirmed that prescription drugs were found in her room. However, law enforcement will not say anything about her cause of death until the results of a toxicology test are in.

Houston's family is making arrangements to have her body flown to New Jersey for a funeral at the end of the week.

Taylor Swift has unveiled her video for 'Safe & Sound,' which features the Civil Wars in a dark and moody landscape befitting of the song that's featured as the first single from 'The Hunger Games' soundtrack.

Taylor is shown walking through the woods with little makeup on, wearing a white nightgown. It's cloudy and she's singing amongst the bare trees. Meanwhile, we see shots of the Civil Wars in a fire-lit cabin. Taylor eventually finds this space abandoned, except for some furniture and one very special keepsake -- the iconic Mockingjay pin.

Although Taylor looked like she wasn't affected by the weather, she says that it was hard to not shiver on camera. "It was so cold. It was freezing," she tells MTV, which premiered the video on Monday. "I was shaking the whole time and trying not to be shaking when the cameras were rolling."

She adds, "It was about 40 degrees in Nashville. It had just rained. I'm wearing this 1920s vintage nightgown that didn't provide much warmth. I didn't get sick. I thought I was going to get sick. That was the upside."

Watch the 'Safe and Sound' video below and let us know what you think in the comments. 'The Hunger Games' will arrive in theaters on March 23.

We talked to celebrity stylist Simone Harouche (who has styled both Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato) about some of the trends she expects to see in 2012. Simone told us that 2012 will be about bright and bold accessories. She expects to see lots of looks featuring a safe outfit, livened up with colorful necklaces, bangles, purses and shoes.

One of Simone's favorite accessories is a colorful purse, so she decided to start her own handbag line called Simone Camille. Her line features hand-embroidered vintage fabrics from India in colorful patchwork designs. She describes the purses as one-of-a-kind and eclectic.

Simone started the line when she grew tired of looking for purses that didn't exist. She designed a purse for herself, and her friend Nicole Richie loved it and asked for one of her own. From there the bag was photographed and the demand grew. Simone's next step was to design leather and suede purses that are more affordable with the same bohemian, whimsical aesthetic. Selena Gomez's new Spring 2012 Dream Out Loud collection is finally here, and who better to advertise for it than the 19-year-old herself? The singer has just released a brand-new ad in which she sports select pieces from the line.

In the pic, we see Sel in a neon green layered top, as well as a pair of white flare jeans. Fans saw this outfit in the recent behind-the-scenes video she released to tease the new collection.

"I didn't want my clothing line to be just about me, I wanted it to be about my fans," she says in the clip. "They're independent, they're individual, so they can wear one of my cardigans and dress it with a cute skirt, or with pants or with boots, or with flats. It's whatever they want to make it who they are."

Although fans are used to seeing the singer/actress on the red carpet, she's more comfortable in casual clothes. "I don't really like dressing up," she adds. "Some people probably think actresses dress up everywhere they go. I'm in sweatpants half the time with my hair in a ponytail."

Justin Bieber took time out of his busy schedule to spend the day before Valentine's Day with a special fan. The pop star enjoyed several fun-filled hours with 6-year-old Avalanna Routh, who is battling AT/RT, a rare form of cancer.

Thanks to the Jimmy Fund, Avalanna was able to "marry" Justin in a pretend ceremony, earning her the name "Mrs. Bieber." The young girl's family then started a Facebook campaign in hopes of orchestrating a meeting with Justin, and when a local TV station in Boston covered the story, The Biebs was watching.

After the 17-year-old heard the news, he flew Avalanna and her family to New York City for a face-to-face meeting, reports 'Today.' The pair played games, gave each other autographs and simply had fun.

"Hangin out with a special little girl. #MrsBieber," Justin tweeted about Avalanna. "That was one of the best things i have ever done. She was AWESOME! Feeling really inspired now! #MrsBieber."

He added, "Got some really great ideas from today. ways to #giveback. #MrsBieber really inspired me. Really." Later, Justin posted a photo from the day with the caption "BEST PART OF MY DAY." It doesn't get any sweeter than that!

Grammy Blog #5: The After Party With OneRepublic And Final Thoughts

Well, it looks like one of the most incredible and exhausting weeks of my life has come to a close. I'm sitting at my desk, looking at all I have to show for my experience. I have a ton of articles, photos, and videos online. My backpack contains seven or eight all-access media passes, programs from every event, my ticket to the GRAMMY Awards, Coldplay's light-up wristbands, a voice recorder chock-full of red carpet interviews, and a notebook with fragments of quotes scribbled on the pages. I'd say that's a pretty accurate representation of GRAMMY Week.

It's been life-changing. Video production was never my thing, but by now I feel confident enough to shoot just about anything. I'd only met a few celebrities before; now I can't count even them on my hands and feet. I'd never worked on a red carpet, and now I have three

The writer, in Los Angeles during Grammy Week

(count 'em, three) under my belt. This is the kind of work experience that has solidified my love of journalism.

It's been mind-blowing. The teen musicians I worked alongside were the best players I've ever met. I could close my eyes during their set, and if I didn't know any better, I'd swear I was listening to dudes in their thirties. And they were friendly virtuosos, too. The conversations we had showed that we all have a serious knowledge of and passion for music of all genres.

It's been inspirational. Meeting more than a handful of my musical idols would have made it worthwhile on its own, but being able to interview these musicians and industry professionals as a reporter for several outlets was a dream come true. I worked with reporters from Rolling Stone and other publications...that was the icing on the cake. And the telecast itself was the cherry on top.

Ah yes, the telecast. I didn't even watch the whole thing and I was stunned. I had seen Bruce Springsteen rehearse his opener, but it was so cool to see the audience mesmerized by his band. Bruno Mars put on one classy performance, and Coldplay created an epic light show. And the Beach Boys reuniting? I got shivers from those harmonies in "Good Vibrations." I wish I could have seen Adele's big comeback, but I'll just YouTube it later. Besides, I was too busy rocking out to OneRepublic's set at the afterparty.

Dozens of interviews and zero hours of sleep later, I'm starting to realize how lucky I am. I spent the week working hard and playing hard. I'm a better journalist and fan because of what I accomplished. It was my first GRAMMYs ever, and it was unforgettable. Here's hoping it won't be my last.

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are one severely cute couple. Though the pair tries to keep their relationship out of the spotlight, it doesn't stop The Amazing Spider-Man co-stars from doing fun "couple-y" stuff together, like going for a smooch-filled stroll down the streets of New York City or shopping for new duds. Because these low-key lovebirds seem so normal, we can imagine ourselves going on a double date with them in real life. Maybe, bowling?! Of course, this on-screen pair isn't the only A-list twosome we think we could hang with! Here are other celeb sweethearts we'd love to grab dinner and movie with:

Selena Gomez & Justin Bieber: There is no question that Jelena are adorbs together, and they go on the best dates. EVER. Who could possibly forget the night the Bieb's rented the entire Staples Center in Los Angeles, and arranged a candlelit dinner for two, along with a private screening of the film, Titanic, for Selena! Now, who wouldn't enjoy an evening like that?

Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson may as well get married now, because they will forever be etched in the minds of Twi-hards fans as the ultimate couple. And while the pair tries to keep their PDA to a minimum, when they are together, the chemistry is undeniable. R-Patz's favorite hangout is rumored to be the Soho House and on a recent date the sizzling stars shared an ice cream sundae after dinner. Maybe next time they could include four spoons?

Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth: It's taken us some time to get used to Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth as an item. But something seems different since the on-again-off-again couple rekindled their romance. What we love about seeing them together is how happy they look! Whether they are kicking it on the beach or posing on the red carpet or just out to lunch, this fun loving duo always seem totally relaxed and all smiles - which makes them the perfect partners for a night on the town!

If you could double date with any celeb sweethearts who would it be?

For days, Justin Bieber has been teasing a big "secret" involving Carly Rae Jepsen, and now the cat is out of the bag. The 17-year-old has signed the fellow Canadian singer to his and manager Scooter Braun's new label, Schoolboy Records.

The 26-year-old pop songbird was performing on MuchMusic on Tuesday, when the network aired a pre-recorded video message of Justin making the big announcement. Scooter also called into the live show to wish Carly well.

Last month, Bieber and his girlfriend Selena Gomez gushed about Carly Rae and her song 'Call Me Maybe.' "This smile is because of Carly Rae Jepsen," Selena tweeted with a photo of Justin driving. "We have not stopped listening your song girl!"

Check out Justin's personal video announcement and listen to 'Call Me Maybe' below. Do you think Carly Rae has what it takes to be a massive pop star like The Biebs? Let us know what you think in the comments.
