Now that there are only eight finalists left on
American Idol, there's a little extra time to kill. Tonight the two country finalists,
Janelle Arthur and
Kree Harrison, came together to do a duet of the iconic "Like a Prayer" by
Madonna.
Though it didn't count as either contestant's song choice of the night, the judges still gave feedback, and some comments were tough to swallow for one of them.
"She [Kree] almost made it look like she flew in to do a duet with an
Idol contestant today,"
Nicki Minaj said to Janelle. "She was so calm, so reserved and so not trying hard. Her voice sounded like butter."
Nicki said she was happy that Kree and Janelle did a duet together, but it didn't quite sound that way. "Janelle, I think you look great, but I think you pushed it a little bit," Nicki said. "Kree definitely outshined you my darling."
Ouch.
Randy Jackson wasn't feeling Janelle too much either. "It is true, Kree outshined you in that moment," he said. But luckily judges
Mariah Carey and
Keith Urban saw the unity in their performance. "This was a sisterhood moment," said Mariah. "It feels silly for me to say who was better than the other because you're not a duo," added Keith.
We agree that Kree might have had a better performance, but the duet was done not to compare the two girls head on. In our opinion, we thought it was a pretty good performance overall.
And Nicki didn't stop there. When it came to the boys' group performance of "I Can't Help Myself" by the
Four Tops, she didn't hold back. "I'm going to act like I didn't see that or hear that," Nicki said to
Devin Velez,
Lazaro Arbos and
Burnell Taylor. "All three of y'all, go, get off the stage."
Whoa. Was Nicki just being honest or did she go a little too far?
